This is not bigotry. The Transexual Ban is not bigotry.
Transgender persons fall into one of three categories.
- Mental/Emotional Issues brought about by Gender Dysphoria.
- Medical/Physical Issues that will come with the transformation process.
- Transgender folks who have no complications brought about by Gender Dysphoria and who are not undergoing the transformation process.
- Those who have already been through the transformation process successfully and are fully adjusted as that gender in society.
The 1st category does not belong in the military. The 2nd category does not belong in the military.
The Third & Fourth Categories, I would allow in the military. However, they would have to, during duty hours, appear and act as their birth assigned gender during their military service.
I agree with the “Trump Ban” on Transgender Persons joining the military. The only exception that I would make is for persons who are willing to sign a lawfully binding agreement stating that they will not undergo the transformation process until AFTER their terms of service. In explanation, if one joins as a Female, one remains a Female and acts as a Female until one leaves the Military. (Same for Males, of course.)
The military is not the place to be on the journey of transformation from one gender to another. The military has a mission. One must be deployable to conflicts or other missions while in the military. The physical transformation process from male to female or female to male and the mental and emotional issues that accompany the transformation process would necessarily make these persons in these processes non-deployable. At which time, the servicemember would become useless to the needs of the military.
The US Army and Marine Corps, etc are not the places for self discovery of this type.
