What should be done with these children who are taken to the border and across the border by their criminal parents, guardians and kidnappers?
Should we put them out on the street. Simply throw them across the border? Shoot them? Euthanize them?
Perhaps, we should place them in your home so that you can take care of them since you feel so for them?
Those “cages” are simply fenced in containment areas. Such would be used for any person who committed illegal acts. And I’ll remind you that crossing into another nation without the proper documentation/permissions is illegal. It is a criminal act.
Perhaps, the parents should be held responsible for dragging their kids to the border and preying upon the bleeding hearts of Leftists who can’t operate in reality and, therefore, encourage these parents and other more nefarious persons to drag children into these circumstances.
The United States Government did not ask these people to come. The United States Government did not invite these people to come. The United States Government did not snatch these folks from their homes in Mexico, Costa Rica, Guatemala, Colombia and Honduras and place them into cages. These people took it upon themselves to attempt to enter into the country illegally and/or under false pretenses.
If there are children in cages, it is the fault of the parents and the criminals who have kidnapped these children and are trafficking them across international borders.
You speak to humanity and humanity’s values. What human value is it to encourage people to run to the US border and overwhelm that border with thousands of folks when the Border Control and Customs and Immigration folks do not have the capacity to deal with that large, abnormal influx of migrants.
What human value is it that states that you demand that others fund your desire to allow these people to come to America and become a drain on the taxpayer?
What human value is it that demands that I fund your charitable impulses?
Please. Do tell.
If you care so much about these people, why aren’t you there caring for them instead of in your home preaching self righteous nonsense.
Get a move on. Kids in cages are suffering because you are too lazy to get off of your duff and help them!
I’m of two minds.
I fully believe that the US should continue to take in immigrants. We simply need to do it better. We owe that to ourselves and to them.
We also need to be a bit selective. We do not need what is happening in Europe. Floods of immigrants who violently take over neighborhoods and the like.
I am pro-immigration. I’m anti-fuck it let’s take anyone who arrives at the border.
Illegal immigrant is kind of a stupid term. lol An immigrant is an immigrant. Some travel with permission, some do not. That said, a simple term was needed in order to simplify the discussion. Especially since so many people can’t think in terms/relationships of complex and dynamic challenges.
The media and government had to dumb the conversation down so that the majority of modestly educated middle Americans could follow along and be fooled into following one or the other spoon fed ideologies. Let’s face it. Make the paragraph too long and most Americans tune out.
Technically speaking, I’ve been in a number of countries illegally. I never intended to stay, though.
The majority of persons who have illegally crossed the borders into America are here to take on jobs that are low paying, menial positions that many Americans will not, for a variety of reasons, take on.
If you deport (kick out) all of these “illegals,” you have one of two choices:
1. Find Americans to work these menial tasks/jobs for low wages. (PROBABLY NOT GOING TO HAPPEN).
2. Raise the wage base so that Americans will actually take these positions.
That will likely cause a huge rise in prices for many of these products and services.
Food prices will skyrocket. Prices for nearly everything will be hiked as many of your janitor/custodial workers and low wage folks in restaurants and the like are illegals. Prices for roofing and like services will likewise skyrocket. Any labor oriented service will raise in pricing.
Are you ready to pay the price for getting rid of all of these “wretched” America invading illegal migrants workers.
The criminals who come to America mixed in with average migrating families are an extremely low percentage of illegal immigrant population. I realize that Right leaning groups of the GOP have used that wedge issue in their fear mongering vote grabbing schemes. Criminals would continue to spirit themselves into America regardless of the ebb and flow of immigration into America.
With these things in mind, are you, middle American, prepared to pay higher prices for good and services in order to “solve” the immigration question?
This is only one area affected by immigration. There is also the fact that immigrants whether legally or illegally introduced to the United States all pay tax. If they purchase goods in America, they pay a tax.
This is one reason why we should go away from the antiquated and punitive Income Tax system and gear our taxation towards consumption. A National Sales tax would be fair to all and it would tax millions of tourists as well as all immigrants regardless of their status. Aside from this, taxing consumption encourages saving and would in all likelihood discourage binge-credit spending. That may be why big business is against a National Sales Tax.
There are many outright lies generated by both the left and the right concerning immigration (illegal or otherwise) AND taxation in the United States. Find your way to the truth. Stop following the party line. Listen to your inner voice. The one that is human. Ignore the voice that tells you what a Republican or Democrat should feel about these complex topics.
Seek the truth, though, it is a difficult path to tread.
I’m of two minds on National Boundaries and Borders. If we are to be a Nation, we will have borders. As a Nation, we have a right and a duty to protect those borders.
As a Nation, we, citizens, invest in our country. It’s called taxes. For 200 years, Americans have invested their blood, treasure and toil in making America what it is today.
Immigrants have invested nothing in our country. What right have they to come up here and to expect to benefit from the blood, treasure and toil of others? They have no such right.
If they come, they come as 1) guest or 2) interlopers/thieves/parasites. Therefore, if they come, they should come ready to contribute to our system. That system is the American System. They should assimilate.
Another aspect of this is the following:
1. They wouldn’t come if there were not demand for them.
2. They wouldn’t come if we weren’t all but allowing them to come because of said demand.
3. These demands are set by American Business and the American People.
We demand lower prices and higher wages. Immigrants have no such demands. They long for a better place in the sun. Immigrants are filling demand while simultaneously fulfilling their dreams.
There are other aspects which serve to agitate or exacerbate the Immigration debate. The Christian Right fears an influx of Catholicos. The Right Wing both fears and hates the “Reconquista” movement. I think the Reconquista movement is smaller than it’s made out to be. I think that “threat” is magnified. I don’t see all of these people crossing the border to make those areas another failed Mexican State.
For people to have dreams and ideals of such magnitude, they first need security. Most immigrants who cross the borders with extralegal methods are not secure and have never been secure. They’re running from insecurity and running to a place where they dream and hope to find security.
Another aspect of this is that we are America. We are supposed to be the light of the World. Yet, we have rarely, if ever, truly fit this bill. For much of our history, we have been the exploiter of the world. Big Business has done that exploiting with the full backing of the Federal Government. We have exploited South and Central America for well over 100 years now. Many of the problems to our South have causal relationships with Business interests in America. We set the stage for much of the violence. If we didn’t set the stage, we sat back and allowed it to happen. In other cases, we put those governments in power who either collapsed or who are either so evil as to have caused the people who are emigrating to America to have begun their exodus from the South and movements to America.
America is culpable for many of the problems to our South including the drug problem. America (and Europe) is the largest drug importer in the world. We buy drugs from these violent places all over the world. Yet, we can’t seem to understand the relationship.
The Illegal Immigration that is occuring has many causes. It’s not as simple as “them people are coming here and we gotta stop them.” It’s much more convoluted. It’s much deeper.
Ann excellent first step would be to stop the War on Drugs. Legalize and control it. Legitimize the drug trade. Prohibition has never worked. It didn’t work with alcohol and it isn’t working with drugs. People are going to get their fix. One way or the other.
Another good step would be to halt our meddling in the affairs of the Nations to the South of us. If big business wants to conduct business with them, let them make their own accords.
The immigration challenge will not be met easily. It will take time. It will take education. It will take fundamental changes in the way that America interacts with her neighbors.
We have always talked about being the “good neighbor.” Perhaps, we will become such one day.
Illegal immigrants are everywhere these days. Kentucky, New Jersey, Maine, Michigan, Idaho, North Dakota. Americans are fed up. They ask why they must pay the tax bill for illegal immigrant welfare.
It’s the cost of cheap labor. If Americans are going to allow South and Central Americans and Mexicans to migrate North so that American Business can get labor so cheap that China looks magnanimous by comparison, then this is the price America must pay.
It’s the same as it ever was. Business passing off expenses to the consumer.
Big (and small) Business gets CHEAP LABOR. The government takes up the slack. The tax payer pays for the Federal Government to take up that slack.
What’s new about this?
America did it with the Japanese, Chinese, Irish, Germans, Italians and others. Now America is doing it with Mexicans and the other Southern fellows. I didn’t mention the Africans because that was different. Slavery was not written off and passed to the customer. There is no comparison between what happened to the Slaves and what occurred with other immigrant groups or the current batch. Slavery was simply evil incarnate. Romans treated their slaves better than the American Southern Gentleman treated his.
Cheap labor. It’s wonderful. You want inexpensive products. Well, this is how you get it in America. Illegal Immigration. The only reason that Americans are complaining about illegal immigration is because it’s in their faces. DAILY! If it weren’t such an obvious phenomenon, the issue would not hold the collectively and infamously short attention span of the American political consciousness.
Cheap labor makes products that come from all over the world. China, Cambodia, Burma, etc,. Not too many Americans give this a second thought as they purchase their Under Armour Shoes and Shirts. Not many Americans spare a thought about these places because they aren’t walking by American front porches or soaking up American tax dollars.
This is the cost of Capitalism and Low Prices. Starvation wages, sweat houses, people living in squalor. All so Americans can buy cheaper iPods, Oranges, Bananas and Nikes. In the end, the devil takes his due.
I’m all for it.
The last pic begs the question. Why do people have children when they know that they can’t take care of them?
I could have done without the last portion. Kinda childish. But, what are ya gonna do…
