Tubby Smith’s Last Year as a Gopher?

The Tubster stunk it up at Kentucky his last few years.  He refused to recruit and equally stubbornly refused to make changes in his beloved system or with his Assistant Coaches.  Then the Tubster fled.  TLT ran off to Minnesota.  He’d spent half of his last season at Kentucky negotiating with Minnesota for the Gopher Head Coach position.

Kentucky fans attempted to warn Gopher fans.  Gopher fans simply assumed that the Sports Media was correct and that UK fans were all rabid racists with White Knight cloaks stored in our closets.  That’d be funny to see as I know quite a few Black UK fans who were just as fed up with Tubby and his TLT sports nightmare.

Dick Vitale and Michael Wilbon excoriated the State of Kentucky, the University of Kentucky and Kentucky Fans.  Wilbon called us all racists.  Said we deserved what we had coming and that UK would not be a great program again.  Good old Dick Vitale pleaded to the NCAA Coaching community to avoid the UK job.  He pleaded with Billy Donovan to NOT go to Kentucky to replace Smith.

Now, the chickens have come home to roost.  Tubby Smith has done exactly what his Kentucky critics said that he’d do at Minnesota.  That being exactly NOTHING.  He’s losing.  He can’t win in the NCAA Tournament…when he can even get there.  He won’t recruit.  He is, again, stubbornly sticking with his Assistant Coaching circle of failed former head coaches.

TLT is close to being fired.  If he makes it to the 2012-2013 Season, I’ll be surprised.  TLT is 0-4 in Big Ten play and hasn’t even played the better teams in that League.

This surprises no one who was forced to watch him destroy the Kentucky Basketball program.

The question that I have is:

Will Dick Vitale and Michael Wilbon go crazy on Minnesota fans and repeat their behavior and the hateful attitudes that they aimed at Kentucky fans?

Now that every UK fan who wasn’t a Tubby Zombie have been proven right, will Wilbon and Vitale apologize?

I doubt it will happen.  Tubby will retire in a haze of invisibility.  Dickie V may notice and, if he does, he’ll find some way to gloss over the failure of Tubby at UM.

Wilbon will ignore it as he was proven wrong by the failure of Tubby to produce anything.  no Big Ten Title.  Not even an NBA draft pick.

Tubby will retire.  The Sports media will ignore it for the most part.

This guy, though, called it right.  One of the few…

The Death of UK Football

Mitch Barnhart has come out today with the statement that Joker Phillips will be “given the time to turn the program around.”

He’s being given next year to turn things around.  By the time The Joke is done, UK Football will be decimated.

Mr. Barnhart should have brought the Grim Reaper with him to the Press Conference.  This announcements is tantamount to a death sentence on the program.  The retention of Joker Phillips crushes the hopes of  a program that is on it’s death bed.

UK Football dies next year.  2012 will be uglier than the worst of the Curry years.  Sure, The Joke will defeat 3 cupcakes.  Charlie Strong and his Cards, however, will run through Joker like a hot knife through butter.  Vanderbilt will continue to improve under a Coach who actually knows his job.  The only team that UK defeated in the SEC fired their coach and will hire someone better than The Joke.

No more bowl games for UK.  It’s back to 40 and 50 point shellackings by UT, UF, LSU, Bama and whoever is fortunate enough to be scheduled on the SECs built in Cupcakes schedule.

It’s up to the fans now.  If they attend the games and “support the team,” there will be no incentive for change.  However, if they steadfastly refuse to spend their hard earned money to see Kentucky Football fail under The Joke, Barnhart and the Board of Trustees will have no choice but to get rid of The Joke.

I have no faith in the UK Football Fan Base, though.  They have shown that they will buy into the program no matter how pathetic a team is fielded.  It’s almost a badge of honor to be able to state that “I was there for the worst of the Curry years.”  Now they’ll be able to say that they were there through the worst Coach in UK History as well.  That’s a hell of a feat for the The Joke.  UK has had some terrible coaching.

But this is par for the course for UK Football.  Two steps forward, five steps back.  This time, UK may not recover.  At best, it will take a decade to undo the damage wrought by the Head Coach in Waiting.

If Joker really loved the program as so many say that he does, he’d resign.  Unless he’s a moron, he’s a millionaire by now.  He’ll never get a better offer as a head coach as he’s failed miserably at UK.  He sits out a year or two.  Someone will eventually call him up to be an Offensive Coordinator.

Terrence Jones out drinking at 230AM?

Terrence Jones. Out with friends in the wee hours of the morning the night before the first game of the season.  Alleged to have had a drink or two (even though he was underage). The night before the first game of the season. I was told by a gal who “knows” TJ that he was calling her at 3AM the night before the UCONN Final Four Game. This behavior goes hand in had with that nonsense.

TJ is not JUST an average College Student. He’s an Elite Athlete on an Elite College Basketball Team. A team whose goal is to win a National Championship. That’s a lot of responsibility.  Carrying that load this year has the potential for a huge pay off if Jones carries it well.  If this kind of irresponsible behavior continues, those goals will not be met.

This is one of my few complaints about Cal at UK. His teams lack discipline. They lack focus at times. At key times, during key games.

If he truly wants that National Championship, he needs to rectify this. Immediately.

“The occupants of the victims’ vehicle were not charged with any wrongdoing. No evidence of drugs or alcohol was found,” Calipari wrote.

FROM KSR:

Sources say Jones was found at a location along Alexandria Drive and was “slightly under the influence with alcohol.” Jones indicated he left the scene, “hoping that Coach Calipari would not find out.”

University officials said they have no comment on whether Jones, who is underage, was drinking.

I don’t care if Jones was drinking or not.  He’s supposed to be the leader on this team.  He’s supposed to be an elite athlete focused on achieving a goal.  Being out at 230AM the night before the first game of the season is a complete lack of focus.  That action is a total disregard for the rest of the team.  This is not the example that Jones should be setting for the Frosh on the team.  Period.  Jones needs to get his act together.   Jones is not just a college student out partying.  I don’t want to hear that excuse.  If Jones didn’t think that he was doing anything wrong, he would not have fled the scene of the accident in the hopes that Coach Cal would not find out.  Obviously, TJ knew that he was in the wrong.

Get yer shit together Jones.  You too, Cal.  WTF!

As an afterthought, Wall and Cousins were supposedly seen out late the night before the West Virginia game.  That team had an off shooting night against West Virginia.  Anyone see a pattern here?

Coincidence that both teams had off shooting nights during those games. Fatigue, maybe?  Ya think!

CATS ADVANCE! Slick Rick and the Tards Sent Home Early.

I don’t care who you are.  That’s funny.

Does Ricky P still love his team?  HAHAHAHA

Kentucky Advances…BARELY!

Knights Only Basket Saves the Day!

Kentucky escapes with a 59-57 victory over the Tigers of Princeton.  I’m watching the score on the internet during the game.  I’m in Hanoi.  Can’t see the game.  Can’t get it on the internet.  All I can get is Yahoo Sports Game In Progress.  I was going insane.

Had to leave for the Airport with Ten Minutes to go.  Had no idea if they won until I got to the Business Class Lounge and hooked up to the Net.  Elated.  Freakin’ elated that they won.  Almost happy I didn’t get to watch this one.  lol  It would have been a a ball buster to have to sit through this one.  I might have destroyed my TV.

GO CATS!  Survive and Advance.  Two points up is better than 2 points down.

GO BIG BLUE!!!

I still can’t believe that the Tards lost to Morehead.  I’m still laughing my ass off.

Coach Cal, Terrence Jones and Profanity ~ An Ideal Time for Some PERSPECTIVE

When I was 18, I was in the Army. I turned 18 about 1 month after basic training. Yes, my Drill Sergeants cursed at me. One of them called me a dumb em effer and kicked me damn near across the room. It was more like a pushing kick than a kick. But his foot hit my back and I went sprawling.

I was recently in Afghanistan.

I met a few 18 year old soldiers over there.

I’m not sure about this. But I don’t think IEDs or bullets or rockets or mortars or any other type of munitions have an age checker on them.

Lots of cursing going on in Afghanistan as well.

I know I cursed every time a rocket exploded near enough that I could feel the ground rock. Usually I was cursing because I had to get my lazy butt out of bed and head to a bunker. I heard a lot of cursing in those bunkers too.

Terrence Jones is 18 or 19. I don’t know. I’ve heard both. I think he’s 19. By that age, there are many who have been in combat and are about to head back to combat.

The average age of the Combat soldier in Vietnam was 19. Nu Nu Nu Nu Nineteen. lol

My older brother joined the Marines when he was 17.

I knew a lot of 18 year olds amongst my fellow recruits.

Some of these were heading to the Korean DMZ.

Some of these guys were heading for Fulda.

Some of them were heading to Panama and would be embroiled in an invasion soon.

Lots of 18 and 19 year old Marines in Beirut in 1982-3.

Terrence Jones had a couple of profane words beginning in “F” directed at him on National TV.

Why am I supposed to be concerned about that?

He could be just another talentless schmuck heading for his second tour in Iraq.

Jorts takes out the Cards in the Chicken Box!

Josh Harrellson puts in 23 points and grabs 14 rebounds in the win over the hated Louisville Cardinals and Quick Rick.  Brandon Knights led all scorers with 25 points.  Deandre Liggins did his thing and shut down every hot hand that attempted to score.  Swatting one Siva ball into the stands.  Liggins and Harrellson are exactly what this team needs for a good run in the tournament.  Senior Leadership.

Cal has done wonders with these kids.

In four years, Cal will have a good mix of Seniors, Juniors and One Year Wonders.  It’s gonna get nasty.  You almost feel for the Cards as they’re so far behind the power curve that they can’t catch up.  But, don’t…they deserve their Pitino and everything else that happens to that program.

And Dr Dunkenstein ain’t walkin’ through that door Little Ricky.

Riffing on the NCAA and the NBA Age Restriction

https://hereticdhammasangha.files.wordpress.com/2010/12/nbapa.jpg?w=300

Why should one go to college?

Is it for the college experience? I’d say that’s the immature reason to go to college.

The reason that folks go to college or any school is to get training or a degree or some type of higher learning to prepare them for some kind of profession.

Basketball is a profession. Sure, it’s a short lived profession.

Nevertheless, it is a profession.

The NCAA should start treating it as such.

Students of the game should be allowed to maximize their instruction time. They should be allowed to learn their chosen profession.

Instead, the NCAA limits instruction in their chosen profession.

It would be like MIT telling mathematics or comp science/programming students that they can only dedicate certain periods/times to the study of mathematics or quantum physics or programming.

It’s all asinine.

If a kid, regardless of his financial situation, can go straight to the NBA out of HS, then they should be allowed to do so.

Kids can go straight to work for Humana or Google or Microsoft out of HS and make a 6 figure salary.

What’s the difference….????

Some kids need a couple more years.

That is where the NBA and the NCAA sit down and make some common sense rules.

A kid makes himself available for the draft. If he is drafted, his pay is deferred until he is evaluated. If he passes muster in the summer league, he stays. If not or if he goes undrafted, he goes back to college. Patrick Patterson could have benefitted from such an eval period. Orton would have. Meeks would have. Many players each year would benefit.

The Summer League and the Draft Process should be treated as an internship.

Legal Students do it. Damn near every other type of student does it.

The only reason that Collegiate Athletes in the Major Sports are given short shrift on this is so that the NCAA can call itself “amateur” and get a tax break. It’s all about the money. It has nothing to do with protecting the game, the sanctity of college sports or the fabled student athlete.

A program of instruction should be developed around each sport. Sports Management type academic program.

It’s not coddling the kids, it’s being realistic.

The way it is now, it’s a colossal waste of time for everyone involved.

While the owners want to do away with the soft salary cap and guaranteed contracts, the players hope to end the age restriction that forbids players from entering the NBA directly out of high school.

“We want to go back to the way it was,” a source from the National Basketball Players Association said. “The players have always been philosophically opposed to it. The vast majority of players feel a player should have the right to make a living. If he has the talent and wants to make money to help his family, he should have that right. It’s just a matter of principle.”

If you read this, let me know what you think?

Make it 26!!!

I wonder if THE JOKE is laughing now???

UK lost to the Vols again yesterday. That makes it 26 years of futility.  26 years of ignominious defeat at the hands of the most despicable programs in the SEC.  26 years of losing to the vile Vols of Knoxville.  Doesn’t matter how low the Vols sink.  Matters not in how bad of shape that despised program lies.  At their best, the Vols have slaughtered UK in Football.  At their worst, the Vols have found a way to beat UK.  Even in UK Footballs recent “glory” years, the Vols have come in to Commonwealth Stadium and strutted out with a W stamped across their effort.  Even in the year 2010 when UT is at it’s lowest point in decades, UK has left Neyland Stadium LOSERS.

Joker promised the fans “Operation Win.”

What did he give us?  Operations Business As Usual.

UK Football can’t get over the hump.  Not with the Coaches they hire.  Not with a Coach who has no heart.  And that’s what we have.  Joker Philips.  All talk, no heart.

He was the “Coach in Waiting.”  We were told this was for continuity.  Well, we got it.  Continuity.  He’s continued the proud UK Football Tradition of LOSING.

UK Football has made losing to the Vols and art form. They’ve found new and creative ways to lose this game 26 times in a row.

Hell, I wasn’t surprised that they lost.  I was just surprised that after a bye week that UK didn’t get blown out.  UK Football never emerges from a bye week prepared.  It’s the complete opposite.  A bye week seems to bring out lethargy and lackadaisical lapses of concentration.

Joker Philips, or as I like to call him, THE JOKE came in talking big.  UK was going to turn it around.  This was the year that UK Football got over the hump.

Looks more like the year that UK Football lost momentum and slid back down there level with Vandy.

THE JOKE should resign.  If the guy had any honor, he’d already have stepped aside.

He won’t do it.  So I give him about 4 more years before the UKAA belatedly admits their mistake, fires him and moves on to make their next lackluster hire of a coach who will be fired soon thereafter.  The UKAA has no imagination when it comes to football.  Always playing to not lose instead of making a play to win.  As long as they’re getting those fat checks from the SEC and fans keep filling up those seats to watch mediocre football this will never change.

So much for this being the REAL BOWL GAME of the season.  Losers talk if I’ve ever heard it, that was.

So, here’s to eternal mediocrity and the hopeless fools who pay for the privilege of watching it.

GO CATS!!!

https://hereticdhammasangha.files.wordpress.com/2010/11/fans.jpg?w=300

When they're 26 or 30 or so, they'll have the same stupified look on their faces. That is IF they are still following the joke that is UK Football.

HAS SOMEONE STARTED FIREJOKER.COM YET???

If not, they should.

Jordan Throws a Little Deserved Ridicule at Lebron

It’s about time.

I tire of Lebron.  Dude acts like he deserves accolades and deserves to be respected and loved.

WIN A CHAMPIONSHIP LEBRON!

Then you can have your commercial and say that you’ve “been here before.”

Until then, you’re just a wannabe.

Sorry.

Some argue that Lebron is better than Kobe.  I’d argue that Kobe has 5 rings.  I’m not the biggest Kobe fan on the planet.  He has, however, earned his status with action.  He doesn’t just run his mouth.

Enough with the excuses.  Show us something ‘Bron.  Show us.

I love that you show my Cats the love.  That said, do something besides whining.

“He’ll never be Jordan,” Barkley told 790 The Ticket in Miami earlier in the week. “This clearly takes him out of the conversation. He can win as much as he wants to.

“There would have been something honorable about staying in Cleveland and trying to win it as ‘The Man’ … LeBron, if he would’ve in Cleveland, and if he could’ve got a championship there, it would have been over the top for his legacy, just one in Cleveland. No matter how many he wins in Miami, it clearly is Dwyane Wade’s team.”

Kentucky outduels the ETSU Bucs 88-65

https://i1.wp.com/media3.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/photo/2010/11/12/PH2010111206551.jpg

First game of the regular season. The Cats come out guns a blazing.  Terrence Jones slams down 25 Points and 12 Rebounds for his first Double Double of his UK Career.  Brandon Knight (17 pts/5 ast) and Doron Lamb (20 pts) bring it with Double Digit scoring. Young Doron also pulled in 5 rebounds.

And in what is most likely a surprise for many a UK fan who had left him for dead, Deandre Liggins throws down for 14 points, dishes out 6 assists and nabs 3 rbds.

It’s going to be a group board effort this year without Kanter.  Unless Vargas and Jorts step up big time.  Jorts is a big fella.  he should be snatching balls left and right.  We’ll see.https://i0.wp.com/www.blogcdn.com/ncaabasketball.fanhouse.com/media/2010/11/terrencejones-200-111210.jpg

Jorts had a respectable 7 rebounds (4 Offensive).  He’ll be sorely needed this year with Kanter being ruled ineligible.  A shame that.  The NCAA made a piss poor decision on that call.  13,000 dollars makes one a “Professional.”  Who’d a thunk it.  I thought Pro Ballers were cashing million dollar checks.  Yet, the NCAA rules that a measly 13,ooo bucks and 20,000 bucks in school expenses makes one a “Professional.”  The NCAA is still a joke.

Anyway.  Great Game and Great Opener on the Season.  Many is the fan was worried about this game.  The baby Cats proved up to the challenge of the Great Bucs of ETSU. Imagine!

The one down side is free throw shooting.  An abysmal .391.  Can’t give up the freebies like that and expect to make any kind of run in the NCAA Tournament.

Last word.  Darius Miller.  The kid seems to have talent.  He doesn’t seem able to bring it except on occasion.  I think he can ball as well as the Frosh.  Why he continues to be satisfied with second string is unfathomable.

Jones become the first Kentucky freshman to debut with a double-double since Jules Camara in 1998, stuffing the stat sheet with 25 points, 12 rebounds, two assists, two blocks and three steals in Kentucky’s 88-64 win over Eastern Tennessee State.

A UK Football Note: Bowl Eligibility

https://i0.wp.com/216.97.229.165/diverse/img/photos/biz/010610_Joker_Phillips.jpg

I can tell you right here and now that this year Kentucky’s bowl game will once again be played in Tennessee.

Knoxville, Tennessee.

The Cats don’t need to be bowl-eligible to play there.

Yes, the Kentucky-Tennessee game on Nov. 27 in Neyland Stadium is the game the Big Blue Nation is truly anticipating.

To be sure, the Cats need to handle matters this Saturday and notch the season’s obligatory sixth triumph by flogging feeble Vanderbilt.

How feeble? The Commodores are last in the SEC in both total offense, total defense and scoring offense. On the bright side, they are 11th in scoring defense.

Last week, in a 55-14 drubbing by visiting Florida, the Commodores punted 12 times. Poor punter Richard Kent — get this man a leg massage — is on pace to break the team record for most punts in a season, a record set last season.

The ‘Dores are converting just 20.7 percent of their third-down opportunities. Next worst among SEC teams in that category is Tennessee. The Volunteers are converting at a 35.6 percent clip.

Need we go on?

How did Vanderbilt beat Ole Miss in Oxford all the way back on Sept. 18?

Houston Nutt, you have some explaining to do.

Joker Phillips will have some explaining to do, too, should the Cats slip Saturday. We shall excuse last Saturday’s near slip. It’s tough for any SEC school to get up for an FCS team, especially one that lost 66-7 to Hawaii. Playing a flat game against a bad FCS team is one thing, being unprepared for an SEC foe — even one by membership only — with something on the line, is another thing.

https://i0.wp.com/www.secdigitalnetwork.com/Portals/3/teleconferences/oct_27/joker_phillips_teleconference_102810.jpg

I find this article to be the height of stupidity.  It’s a joke. My opinion is that THE JOKE already has some explaining to do. Like how “Operation Win” turned into Operation Failure with one of the easiest schedules that UK will face for a while.

This was supposed to be a year in which UK graduated to a bigger Bowl picture. Instead, Neyland and the possible defeat of a downtrodden Vols team is THE BOWL GAME of 2010.

WHAT A JOKE!

At least the name fits.

The “Bowl Game” to which UK Football is looking forward is the game at Knoxville?

It’s an admission that UK Football is so bad that they can’t win against a quality opponent.  UK must win this year while UT is down or miss it’s chance at breaking that streak.

UK Football is so terrible that they’re looking forward to going down to Neyland Stadium and defeating (or attempting to defeat) the Volunteers.  A Tennessee Vol Team in disarray.  A UT Football team on it’s 3rd coach in as many season.  A team depleted by scholarship reductions, defections and any number of scandals and problems.

That’s how awesome UK Football truly has become under Rich Brookes.

Now!  Dont get me wrong.  Rich Brooks did an incredible job of pulling UK Football out of the dregs.  He took UK Football from the bottom of the SEC to a respectable bottom of the SEC.  And that was a HUGE improvement.  That’s how terrible UK was.  Now, UK is a threat to actually beat the 2nd Tier Teams of the SEC and to occasionally defeat a #1 LSU team.  They’ve done it.  They defeated UGa two years in a row.  They picked off Auburn last year. They finally took out Spurrier and the Cocks this year.

The only problem is that UK has no depth.  They lose one or two key players and the year is over.  The year that they beat #1 LSU.  They went on to lose the next three games.  Why?  Injuries.

Why can’t UK recruit?  I don’t know.  They get decent kids.  They just never have enough get over the hump and to stay there.  Recruiting kills UK.

Now, we’ve got The Joke and Operation Win.  No more moral victories.  The Failed First Season.

I don’t see anything that’s changed.  Some of the UK fans whom I know rave about The Joke.  I don’t see it.  What UK needs is something to bring in the recruits.  Usually, that’s a head coach.  I see Joker Philips simply continuing to bring in the same kind of recruits that Brooks brought in.  An occasional gem but no depth.

That’s not going to build UK Football into a powerhouse nor is it going to bring UK Football out of the “respectable basement” of the SEC.  It’s simply going to maintain the status quo.

Now, don’t go repeating these things on Kentucky Forums if you agree with me. It’s a sure fire way to be suspended or banned or, at the very least, booed off the board.  lol

Bottom line.  I’m not excited about defeating a down in the dumps Tennessee Vol team.  Sure, it would be nice to kick the SOBs while their down.  It’s just that I’d like to see a Kentucky Football Team that can go into Neyland in a UT Vol Championship year and kick their butts.  I’d like to see a Kentucky Football program that is feared in the SEC.  Not just a team that the other SEC programs shouldn’t overlook.

Problem is.  The UKAA doesn’t want this and UK Football fans don’t know what they want.  And if UK Football fans did know what they wanted, they wouldn’t have the necessary courage and fortitude to do anything about it.  The sporting world is full of chumps.

If you need any evidence of that:  There are still UK Basketball fans who love Tubby TLT Smith.  (They’re usually the same stupid SOBs who don’t want to hear anything but positivity about UK Football.)

Michael O’Brien and Yellow Journalism

https://hereticdhammasangha.files.wordpress.com/2010/08/cartoon_ethical.jpg?w=267

Does it matter if the allegation is grounded?  Does it matter if the “rumor” destroys a young mans and his family’s reputation?

Not to the Chicago Sun Times and Michael O’Brien.

What matters is hits on the Blog or News Site.

O’Brien has destroyed Anthony Davis’ reputation.  He’s destroyed the reputation of his father.

Now.  It may come to pass that the allegations are grounded.  We’ll probably never know.

What we do know is that O’Brien printed rumors.  Supposedly he has three sources who claim that Mr. Davis demanded $200,000 in exchange for the services of his son. Well, it was $200,000 in the first iteration.  The first claim.  Now, it’s between 125,000 and 150,000 US Dollars in the new allegations by O’Brien and the Chicago Sun Times.

What is certain now is that it’s time.  Time for the UKAA to take a stand.  It’s time for accountability.

If Pat Forde is behind all of the late shenanigans as Marc Maggard claims, it’s time for Forde to be brought to heel.  Time for him to be put in his place.

Calipari bends the rules.  Thus far he’s not been proen to have broken a rule.  No major violation has been pinned to his collar.  That doesn’t stop the media from attempting to hold him accountable for everything from his players Grade School transcripts to their birth certificates.

The NCAA needs to clean up their act as well.  Streamline that megalith of a rule book and put out a guideline that makes sense.  One that actually protects the prospective Student Athlete rather than one simply designed to maintain that tax status.

After all, this system is supposed to be FOR the Student Athlete.  It’s not supposed to be simply and singularly about making the NCAA money and keeping the Executive Administrators and Coaches wealthy.

O’Brien and Forde and all of these other journalists claim that College Sports has lost it’s purity.  They blame that loss on everything under the sun.  Everything except for the primary cause is labelled a plague on College Sports.

The NCAA is the problem and the Sports Media is the enabler for this all powerful conglomeration.  The shadowy nexus of big money and byzantine rules designed to maximize profits and keep kids from breaking into that gargantuan piggy bank of multi-million dollar TV contracts and Sports Apparel Marketing.

Until the NCAA faces itself in the mirror, all of these problems are simply going to stack up like so many 15 second skeletons in Rick Pitino’s love closet.

I’m tired of it.

https://i1.wp.com/www.samplereality.com/gmu/spring2009/660/wp-content/uploads/2009/04/yellow.gif

I don’t know why UKAA has let it go on this long.  It’s time for real accountability.  I’m not talking

about 16 and 17 year old kids being held accountable.  It’s time to hold the adults in the big house responsible.

O’Brien, name your sources.  Anthony Davis and his father are entitled to face their accusers.  This is

America after all.  Where one is supposed to be innocent until proven guilty.  That’s simply not the case with the media.  With the commisars of the media, one is guilty until proven

innocent.  This case highlights that sad fact of life in American popular culture.

These sources are just as liable for their deceit.  Have they self reported to the NCAA or did they simply keep the ammunition for a rainy day when they could smear the recruit and the school to which he commits.  If they did not report, they are just as guilty as the school who allegedly paid the Davis family.

I’m sick and tired of these hypocrits.  It’s time to make people accountable for their words.

Kentucky Makes NBA Draft History ~ Awesomeness

Coach Cal put five Cats into the NBA Draft this Thursday.  Never been done before (in a single draft).

I’m happy about it.  Not nearly as excited as I’d have been if those 5 players had led UK to the National Championship.  Still it’s a great accomplishment.

http://www.wildcatnation.net/forum/attachment.php?attachmentid=2124&d=1277511002

Kentucky Coach John Calipari sounded like a proud papa on Friday when discussing his five former players who were picked in the first round of the NBA Draft the previous night.

And while the exodus means that UK must adjust to a lot of new players next season, Calipari is hoping that the Cats continue to be a big player on NBA Draft night.

“I hope we do it again,” Calipari said. “My dream now would to be to have the No. 1 overall pick and six first-round draft picks. I want my sixth man to get drafted in the first round.”

John Wall was the No. 1 draft pick. DeMarcus Cousins checked in at No. 5, Patrick Patterson at No. 14, Eric Bledsoe No. 18 and Daniel Orton at 29th.

1948 US Olympic Basketball

Games of the XIVth Olympiad — 1948

London, England • July 30 – August 13, 1948

An easy United States march to the gold proved in the first post-World War II Olympiad that the U.S. remained the world leader in basketball. Obviously, a war-torn Europe had not had the opportunities to advance the game like the United States and South America. In fact, five of the eight teams in the quarterfinals were from the Americas, and a sixth, Argentina, almost upset the U.S. in the preliminaries.

The Phillips 66ers, winners of the 1948 national AAU title, met the 1948 NCAA champs, University of Kentucky, in the final game of the Olympic Trials. The 66ers edged Kentucky,
53-49, and Bud Browning of the 66ers was named head coach, and University of Kentucky legend Adolph Rupp was selected as his assistant.

During a pre-Olympic tour in Scotland, Browning and Rupp, each believing his own members of the team played best as a unit, concocted a strategy of unit substitution — one unit of five 66ers and one unit of five Kentucky Wildcats.

Relying on the two coaches’ unit plan, Switzerland was beaten 86-21 as Alex Groza led all scorers with 19 points, and several days later, nine Americans scored in a 53-28 win over Czechoslovakia. Still utilizing the unit plan as much as possible against Argentina, the starting 66ers five forged a 14-9 lead. When the second group of Kentucky players were substituted, Argentina rallied and by half led 33-26. The original starting crew returned at the start the second half, but eventually it had to be revised because of foul trouble. With three minutes remaining and the score even, 55-55, Kenneth Rollins sank a free throw, Jack Robinson added a field goal and Gordon Carpenter added one free throw to clinch the USA’s 59-57 victory. Rollins and Carpenter led the U.S. with 12 points each.

Egypt proved no match for the U.S. in a lopsided 66-28 U.S. win, and with Wallace Jones leading the way with 12 points, the U.S. crushed Peru 61-33. Kurland scored 19 points as the Americans handed South American champion Uruguay a 63-28 setback, and the U.S. moved within a victory of the Olympic gold after discarding of Mexico, 71-40, as Groza scored 19 points.

Facing France in the finals, Browning started his five 66ers. Only leading 9-4, the unit system was abandoned and Browning began substituting one player at a time. At half the U.S. was in command 28-9, and the Americans went on to record an easy 65-21 victory over France. The USA’s scoring was led in the gold medal game by Groza and Raymond Lumpp who tallied 11 points each.

These are Stats and a write up of the 1948 Olympic Basktball Team.
The interest for me in this is that Adolph Rupp was assistant Coach or “co-coach” as some have called it saying that an agreement was made whereby he was more or less equal with Philips 66ers Coach Omar Browning.  I don’t know if that is true or not.  Nonetheless, Rupp was on the Coaching staff and that’s good enough for me. Also, the ’48 NCAA Champion  Kentucky Wildcats Starting 5 plus were on that Olympic Team.
I’ve met one member of that team ~ Mr. Wallace “Wah Wah” Jones.  Actually I’ve met Wah Wah a few times.  First time was at a function put together by Mel McCane for WildcatFaithful.com back in 2000.  An Adolph Rupp impersonator was brought in to give a performance of Rupp talking and coaching his team.  A bit of storytelling.  It was a great show.  Afterward, Vernon Hatton and Joe B. Hall spoke about their time with Rupp.  Hall being the Coach who both played and coached with Coach Rupp and later replaced him.  Hatton being a member of the ’58 NCAA Championship Team.
Here is an interesting quote on Adolph Rupp by Don Barksdale:
“[Rupp] turned out to be my closest friend,” Barksdale said. “We went to London and won all 12 games and got the gold medal.” But he had to brush off indignities just about every step of the way. . . Later, coach Rupp told Barksdale, “Son, I wish things weren’t like that, but there’s nothing you or I can do about it.” Barksdale agreed. He lived by a very simple philosophy. He wasn’t interested in protest; he was interested in playing basketball. He had faced prejudice before, and he knew that he would face it again.
Don Barksdale was the only African American on the ’48 Olympic Team.  He was the First Black NBA All Star and only the 3rd Black NBA Player.

I’ll leave it there.  Take from it what you will.

John Wall Jersey on Ebay for $1000.00

I wonder if anyone will match the “buy now” price.

John Wall is popular, but, is he that popular.  Those Jerseys were extremely difficult to obtain.  I was able to get a John Wall Jersey for myself and my girlfriend and a friend of mine.  They sold out almost instantly online and in the store.
