Absentee Parents?

Where did this idea of the “absentee father” (parent) come from?

We act as if this is abnormal. From what I can tell, it has always been that way. In the past, the Mother nurtured as Father worked. The Father has always been more out of the home than in the home.

When, why, how and who created this false impression of normality being the Father staying at home and raising the children?

Where did children get the idea that Daddy should stay home and cuddle with them on the couch all day?
Where did adults get the idea that they were abused or neglected if Daddy didn’t spend a minimum of 20 hours per week with them when they were children?
Was it simply the first step in conditioning us for Big Brother to take over our lives?
