Another celebrity dies, another group of bubbleheads use that celebrities death to make political statements about the downfall of society.
People die every day. The effect that a death has on the world is determined by the ways in which a person has touched the world in life. There are millions of people who are concerned over the troubles of Africa. At some point, though, Africa has to solve it’s own problems. Much like Afghanistan, the world can not force African Nations to start giving a damn about themselves and each other enough so as to solve their problems themselves.
Short of going in and slaughtering half of them and then solving their problems for them, what would these folks have the world do?
People are going to continue to celebrate talent and mourn the loss of such talented people. People are going to continue to see problems such as those in Africa as something far removed and not of their concern as long as these problems are remote. It’s all about proximity. That has nothing to do with our society. In many ways, it’s all to do with scale.
Who’s society are we talking about anyway? Romanian? European? Chinese? American? Islamic? Christian? Buddhist? Hindu? Zoroastrian? Byzantine?
How is mourning the death of a talented person a damnable characteristic of a society?
Millions of dollars are poured into Africa each day. Millions more will continue to be poured into Africa. This will happen year after year, decade after decade. Millions of people have sent money or traveled to Africa to help Africans. When does Africa start to help itself. It’s the same thing about which we have complained in Afghanistan. These people overwhelmingly will not help their own neighbors. Instead choosing to get theirs before they “get got.” The corruption levels in places Afghanistan and the countries of Africa are off the scale.
What would these people have us do? I see criticisms. I see no solutions proffered.
Any time anyone does attempt to force a Nation or a people to act a certain way, the very people who keep saying that we should do something start complaining about the way we are doing that “something.” If we simply pour money into these countries, they turn into Somalias or Rwandas. If we do nothing, they turn into Syrias and Lybias.
Is crying over 1 million dead Africans going to solve anything? If I take a moment out of each day and shed a tear over the deaths of millions of children and mothers in Africa, is this going to change the world? I think not.
With all of that in mind, why is the mourning of Whitney Houston by the people whose lives have been touched by her voice a statement of any sort on “Society?” The peoples of those societies mourn the death of a talented person who has touched millions of lives through song. How is that a great evil? How does that equal a “messed up” society?
This guy is a freakin’ idiot!
Hand a monkey an AK47 and you get bullets slung at you. lol
Note the victory dance at the end.
Why should one go to college?
The reason that folks go to college or any school is to get training or a degree or some type of higher learning to prepare them for some kind of profession.
Basketball is a profession. Sure, it’s a short lived profession.
Nevertheless, it is a profession.
The NCAA should start treating it as such.
Students of the game should be allowed to maximize their instruction time. They should be allowed to learn their chosen profession.
Instead, the NCAA limits instruction in their chosen profession.
It would be like MIT telling mathematics or comp science/programming students that they can only dedicate certain periods/times to the study of mathematics or quantum physics or programming.
It’s all asinine.
If a kid, regardless of his financial situation, can go straight to the NBA out of HS, then they should be allowed to do so.
Kids can go straight to work for Humana or Google or Microsoft out of HS and make a 6 figure salary.
What’s the difference….????
Some kids need a couple more years.
That is where the NBA and the NCAA sit down and make some common sense rules.
A kid makes himself available for the draft. If he is drafted, his pay is deferred until he is evaluated. If he passes muster in the summer league, he stays. If not or if he goes undrafted, he goes back to college. Patrick Patterson could have benefitted from such an eval period. Orton would have. Meeks would have. Many players each year would benefit.
The Summer League and the Draft Process should be treated as an internship.
Legal Students do it. Damn near every other type of student does it.
The only reason that Collegiate Athletes in the Major Sports are given short shrift on this is so that the NCAA can call itself “amateur” and get a tax break. It’s all about the money. It has nothing to do with protecting the game, the sanctity of college sports or the fabled student athlete.
A program of instruction should be developed around each sport. Sports Management type academic program.
It’s not coddling the kids, it’s being realistic.
The way it is now, it’s a colossal waste of time for everyone involved.
While the owners want to do away with the soft salary cap and guaranteed contracts, the players hope to end the age restriction that forbids players from entering the NBA directly out of high school.
“We want to go back to the way it was,” a source from the National Basketball Players Association said. “The players have always been philosophically opposed to it. The vast majority of players feel a player should have the right to make a living. If he has the talent and wants to make money to help his family, he should have that right. It’s just a matter of principle.”
If you read this, let me know what you think?
This has got to be the dumbest scandal in the history of dumb scandals.
Having met a few “holier than thou” Leftist PC from Hell Irish Dudes here in Bangkok, though, I can understand how this is an issue on the Emerald Isle.
Bunch of freakin’ panty wastes!!!!
Accounting giant PricewaterhouseCoopers (PWC) is mired in scandal after a group of 17 male employees in Dublin started forwarding around a “top 10″ list of their picks for the most attractive female employees in the office. We have it.
The frat boy behavior of 17 Irish PWC employees is quickly becoming an international incident. The company has already launched an investigation after the email was forwarded all over Ireland, and made its way into the newspapers there today:
“We are taking this matter extremely seriously and are launching a full investigation. We will take all necessary steps and actions in line with our firm’s polices and procedures,” PWC’s human resources partner Carmel O’Connor said last night.
Accounting trade magazines have picked up the story; once it hits the British tabloids, it’ll certainly be a PR nightmare for PWC—which has 2,000 employees in Ireland, and 160,000 worldwide. It’s already circulated widely in the Irish corporate world, and the media there has seen it, but no news outlet has published it yet.
Judge for yourself. (Don’t get all exercised; there’s nothing pornographic, it’s standard company photos and titles.) Perhaps this will serve as a warning to office-working dudes across the corporate world: Don’t do this.
They need an investigation? Why? Gather the morons together. Smack them on the wrist with unpaid time off and put it to rest. The biggest crime here is that it’s a top ten list with 13 gals on it.
AND IT’S AN ACCOUNTING FIRM!!!
P.S. I’ve met a few cool Irish dudes as well. So don’t get your panties in a wad.
Don’t believe a thing you read on the internet without fact checking it yourself. And I’m not talking about snopes.com. I’m talking about real research. 90% of the tripe that folks forward is half lie, half truth or pure unmitigated frakin’ bull scheit!
Ya gotta love the things that people forward. Great jokes. Awesome stories that inspire and some that help with every day things like getting stains out of your favorite shirt.
Then….ya get those political emails.
Now, don’t get me wrong. I actually like a good political email. I love talking politics. I go to several political boards and get down to the nitty gritty arguing various issues and policy as well as Foreign Affairs.
What I can’t stand are the email forwards that are full of idiotic lies and propaganda. These emails irk the shit out of me. It doesn’t matter to me at whom the lies are directed. Lies directed against Barry Obama. are just as idiotic and heinous and INSULTING to my intelligence as lies directed against George Bush. Often times, it’s so easy to tell that the forwards are lies and ignorant hit pieces that I find it difficult to believe that anyone is sending them to me with a straight face. Even more incomprehensible is the fact that so many willingly believe these lies. I’m told that the world is full of idiots. Stalin called them useful idiots and there is truth to Stalin’s claim.
The latest email is this classic batch of outright lies and not so clever half truths:
This is chilling…
established one day a year as a

First Thursday in May of each year as

Candidate Barack Obama

Of “not wanting to offend anyone”
On September 25, 2009
from 4 am until 7 PM,
a National Day of Prayer
for the Muslim religion was Held on Capitol Hill,
Beside the White House.
There were over 50,000 Muslims that
Day in D.C. (Dave’s Edit: This prayer rally was not government sanctioned. This was free people assembling near the White House to express their beleifs. This is part of what it means to be America and American. Freeedom of Assembly is a right of every American. It’s no only for White Americans or Black Americans or Christian Americans or Heterosexual Americans. It’s for all Americans. It’s in the Bill of Rights. Is it possible that the idiot who sent out this email is only for the Bill of Rights when it assists his cause. If the Bill of Rights is used by “others” it’s bad. That’s what this assmite is saying. Do you agree with this?)
HE PRAYS WITH THE MUSLIMS! (Dave’s Edit — NO! He’s taking his shoes off to enter a Mosque. He’s not praying. Not that there is anything wrong if he did. I’ve prayed with Muslims in Mosques. Does that mean that I’m a Muslim? No, It doesn’t. It means that I was with a group of people that I respect and feel that most of the holy places of the world are filled with people who are humbly beseeching God for comfort and assistance or simply peace of mind. Praying does this. It gives peace of mind. Even for a heretical non-believer such as me.)
I guess it Doesn’t matter
Are offended by this event -
Don’t count as
this country is headed
should strike fear in the heart of every Christian,
especially knowing that the
Muslim religion believes that if Christians cannot be
converted, they should be annihilated.

The words of 2 Chronicles 7:14
“If my people, Who are called by my Name,
Will humble themselves And pray,
And seek my face, and Turn from their Wicked ways,
Then will I hear from Heaven
And will forgive their Sin and will heal Their land.”
We must pray for Our nation, our communities,
Our families, and especially our children.
They are the ones who are going to suffer the most.
If we don’t PRAY
May God have Mercy.
IN GOD WE TRUST.
Please pass this on
Maybe someone, somehow can figure out a way to put America
back on the map as it was when we were growing up,
a safe place to live, and by
The Ten Commandments and Pledge of Allegiance.
For Obama to continue as our president
is an INSULT TO OUR FOUNDING FATHERS
AND DISGUSTING TO EVERY RED-BLOODED AMERICAN.
Honestly, every red blooded American who received this tripe should be hunting down the lying fuck who created this Orwellian fabrication. I’d love to mangle his fingers so that he’ll never be able to type out idiotic tripe like this again.
This is a 100% fabrication.
The pic is of old Barry entering a the Blue Mosque in Istanbul Turkey.
EVERYONE takes their shoes off to enter that Mosque and every other mosque in the world. I’ve been to hundreds of Mosques and I’ve taken my shoes off in each and every Mosque that I entered. There are quite a few pictures to that effect on my blog.
So this is just another big lie being sent round and round the internet that gullible folks who don’t know the definition of the word “research” will believe because they’re, well……gullible.
Should I be offended that someone thinks I’m this stupid and that I would unquestioningly believe propaganda reminiscent of Stalin and his KGB ran Tass news organization? Should you? Are other people out there who have Right Leaning, Conservative Views truly this willing to be lied to and led by the nose? Is America this devoid of integrity? I wonder. More and more, I wonder. And If one such as I am asking this question, the problem runs deep. Barack Obama can’t get out of office soon enough for me. But I don’t want just another, dumb ass Republican in the White House after him. It’s like trading in a broken down Ford for a broken down Hyundai.
I want someone who will make a real difference instead of lie about changing things like Bush and Obama did and do.
What’s the diff?
How about someone who actually gives a damn about our Republic?
We could start by people rejecting this internet trash.
Honestly and from experience, I know that there are many weak minded folks who believe all of this tripe. Many who want to believe these lies and go on believing these lies even after they have been unequivocally exposed as lies.
I’m constantly told that I need to move back to America because I refuse to lay down and accept these lies or because I don’t see the world so black and white that I will intentionally become angered by machts nicht issues such as these and “Dialing 1 for English.” I do not understand the angst caused by these issues now nor will I if I move back to the States. I’m not apologetic about it either. I have no wish to become somoenes useful idiot.
Enlighten yourself. Raise your awareness. Do no believe the lies. Counter the lies at every opportunity. I’d say that folks should go so far as to ridicule the proponents and propogators of these lies. Certainly, those who lie to us in order to attain high office will lie to us in order to maintain their power. Look no further than Bush and Obama. Both live in houses built upon lies and had/have no choice but to build lie upon lie to stay in power and to keep one step ahead of prosecution.
Yet, we voted these folks into power along with their lying staffs and lying sycophants and press agents. Each lie degrades our Republic and all for which it stands. We are no longer One Nation Under God, we are a nation under a house of lies and our house grows daily into a decrepit cess pool of lies, half truths and propaganda.
Is this the America that was once called the Last Best Hope of Earth by Abraham Lincoln or the America that we are accused of being by our enemies.
You tell me.
Peace and God Bless all of you…Dave
P.S. Obama did not cancel National Prayer Day. And I don’t really care if he did. Americans who want to pray should pray. And be happy that they don’t live in the old Soviet Union where you might have been shot for praying. Depending on how drunk the Officer in Charge was or if he liked you or not.
That simply means God is Great in Arabic. Surely, you agree with that and surely one can have no problems with these words as there are many an Arabic speaking Chrisitan living in the Middle East.
(June 5) — Women in Saudi Arabia should give their breast milk to male colleagues and acquaintances in order to avoid breaking strict Islamic law forbidding mixing between the sexes, two powerful Saudi clerics have said. They are at odds, however, over precisely how the milk should be conveyed.
A fatwa issued recently about adult breast-feeding to establish “maternal relations” and preclude the possibility of sexual contact has resulted in a week’s worth of newspaper headlines in Saudi Arabia. Some have found the debate so bizarre that they’re calling for stricter regulations about how and when fatwas should be issued.
Sheikh Al Obeikan, an adviser to the royal court and consultant to the Ministry of Justice, set off a firestorm of controversy recently when he said on TV that women who come into regular contact with men who aren’t related to them ought to give them their breast milk so they will be considered relatives.
“The man should take the milk, but not directly from the breast of the woman,” Al Obeikan said, according to Gulf News. “He should drink it and then becomes a relative of the family, a fact that allows him to come in contact with the women without breaking Islam’s rules about mixing.”
Obeikan said the fatwa applied to men who live in the same house or come into contact with women on a regular basis, except for drivers.
Al Obeikan, who made the statement after being asked on TV about a 2007 fatwa issued by an Egyptian scholar about adult breast-feeding, said that the breast milk ought to be pumped out and given to men in a glass.
But his remarks were followed by an announcement by another high-profile sheik, Abi Ishaq Al Huwaini, who said that men should suckle the breast milk directly from a woman’s breast.
Shortly after the two sheiks weighed in on the matter, a bus driver in the country’s Eastern Region reportedly told one of the female teachers whom he drives regularly that he wanted to suckle milk from her breast. The teacher has threaten to file a lawsuit against him.
The fatwa stems from the tenets of the strict Wahhabi version of Islam that governs modern Saudi Arabia and forbids women from mixing with men who are not relatives. They are also not allowed to vote, drive or even leave the country without the consent of a male “guardian.”
Under Islamic law, women are encouraged to breast-feed their children until the age of 2. It is not uncommon for sisters, for example, to breast-feed their nephews so they and their daughters will not have to cover their faces in front of them later in life. The custom is called being a “breast milk sibling.”
In another bizarre fatwa (ruling) by the Wahhabi Clerics of that insane religion from the Nejd, a group of Saudi Clerics has stated that men who frequently interact with women from outside of their family should drink the breast milk of said women in order to become their “siblings.”
Why make rules or even follow the Qu’ran if they are going to go to such lengths to get around them. The Saudi Kings and Princes [supposedly] follow Islam while they are in the Kingdom. When they depart the sacred land of Arabia, these Princes do as they please. The rules apparently only apply while they are on sacred Saudi soil.
I know that while I was in Kuwait several Filipino gals were kidnapped, raped, murdered and then deposited in the desert. The desert tells no tales. Another “custom” of these holy men of Arabia is to lure young Filipino and other Asian gals into one of the desert Kingdoms with the lure of employment. Come to Kuwait or Saudi Arabia or one of the UAE countries to become a maid, an aux pair or run a restaurant. Once the girls arrive, the sponsor takes her passport. The first thing that takes place is that the girl is raped and beaten. She no longer is in possession of her passport. This is in the possession of her sponsor. She has no recourse. She can’t complain to the police. They’ll not believe her. Especially as the rules of Sharee’ah are in force. She needs witnesses. If she claims rape, yet, has no witnesses, she’s guilty of adultery or fornication or crimes against chastity. She’ll be judged against and punished harshly. Up to and including beatings, canings, lashes and death.
I guess now, though, all they have to do is give up a little breast milk and their siblings.
Hey! Then everything is A-OK.
Ain’t that grand.
And that’s Islam in a nutshell.
Power in the name of religion, Allah, Mohammad.
The Wahhabis need to be ended. Period.
Without Wahhabism, Islam could be a decent religion. Possibly have a renaissance era that brings it into an era of peace and out of it’s essence of death, violence and war.
Any person in the West who is mad enough or stupid enough to justify or rationalize this lunacy should be deported and made to live in Saudi Arabia in the Nejd.
Air drop their ridiculous selves into the Nejd and let them fend for themselves. That’s a perfect punishment for child molestors, rapists and murderers, too. Hell, perhaps we could send our politicians there, too. Let’s make Obama the first example of Islamic “Justice.”
For these woman, like the women in Afghanistan and other countries where the rights of girls and women are being stripped away under the pretext of religious piety, feminism is a life and death matter. A spectacular example is the life and near-death of Malalai Joya.
She had committed no crime, had set up an orphanage and a health centre, been elected to parliament, but for her affront to the dignity of the new male-dominated institutions, for calling it a sanctuary for “warlords and theocrats” and comparing it to a zoo, she was thrown out of office by a majority vote of parliament, threatened with death, abandoned by the government, forced to move from safe house to safe house. She has survived two assassination attempts.
She is also banned from flying. To get to Australia she had to leave home under the all-enveloping burqa – a garment she describes as “disgusting” – travel by van to the Pakistan border, then by another van to a city in Pakistan, then fly to Bangkok, then to Sydney. The journey took almost three days. As the most outspoken woman in Afghanistan, she lives with the constant risk of murder.
On April 12 a leading Afghan feminist and member of the regional parliament in Kandahar, Sitara Achakzai, was abducted and then murdered by Taliban gunmen.
Any man who is for this bit of oppressive fabric is an uneducated lout and, most probably, a bigot. Any woman who has a positive view of the burqa or hijab is a self hating, propaganda laden soul who has no idea of her own potential as a human being. God did not intend for half of humanity to be covered and marginalized or he’d have not blessed women with the intelligence that is so obviously present in their gender.
The UN and every other so called humanitarian organization should be ashamed of themselves for not doing all that they can to stamp out this stain on human dignity.
Some Muslim women argue that they wear the hijab out of a desire to appear humble before God. It is their personal beliefs that motivate them to wear the hijab (veil). This is all good and well for those Muslim women who have a choice. The problem is with the millions of poor, uneducated women who do not have the same choices and opportunities as these women.
On the other hand, we have the women in places like Afghanistan and the Sinai who are forced to wear the hijab and the burqa. These women do not have a choice. These women are subjugated by the medieval minds of men who have no respect for women and see them as only a vessel for their seed in the production of offspring.
It is all good and well that educated women from privileged backgrounds in the Middle East, other predominantly Islamic countries and the West have the choice as to whether to wear the hijab or not. The unfortunate outcome of their donning the hijab, though, is that said decision is used by oppressive forces and backward, patriarchal madmen to enslave the minds and to physically oppress of millions of women in Central Asia, the Middle East and India. These men use Islam, the hijab and the burqa as a means to keep their boot heals squarely across the neck of women in all of the lands of Islam. To women who are forced to wear these garments, the hijab and the burqa are not a symbol of humility in the face of God, but, a symbol of systematic rape, oppression and violence.
Islam is like any other religion. There exists both beauty and ugliness within the pages of all religious books. Evil men and women pick and choose the verses and suras which back their decrepit and despotic philosophies in order to further their personal wealth and twisted designs. Good men and women use those words and phrases from these books which advance the cause of humanity towards a better tomorrow.
Until all Muslim women have the freedom of choice to wear the hijab, I believe it is the duty of all peoples to take a stance against the use of the veil for ill intent. This obligation is especially incumbent upon Muslim women whose Sisters in Islam are the primary victims of this particular form of oppression. This is a choice that Muslim women have to make. I agree that the hijab when it is worn in free choice is an idea of beauty. Humility before God (for those who believe in these religions) is an appeal to the grace of humanity. It is, indeed, a beautiful act. The problem is that millions of men across the Muslim world use the hijab and the burqa not as an appeal to God but as a tool of personal power and in acts of narcissism and nihilism. These acts are in direct contravention to the Qu’ran, the Bible and the will of God. To deny or ignore these acts and the suffering of these women is to deny reality. Muslim women must stand together on this issue. The oppression of one is the oppression of all.
I swear to God. I did not make this up. That was the real title to this picture in an International Newspaper.
What a celebration? Oh, the irony. Utter lunacy…
They’re marking it alright. Marking it right off the calender. It means nothing to these women. And even less to the men who force them to wear these disgusting bits of cloth.
My opinion. These things should be outlawed INTERNATIONALLY. The hijab. The Burqa. The Chadori. The Veil. They should all be outlawed.
Is this the Thai government attempt to divert the countries attention away from the PAD protests and madness? What is going on in the Land of Smiles? It seems to be going insane. Between the PAD, the Muslims in the South and the Cambodian border, Thailand has become the land of division, protest and madness.
Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen ordered fresh troops to the border with an ultimatum to Thailand: Pull military forces back today or the border will become a “life and death battle zone”.
Hun Sen told reporters in Phnom Penh that he had warned Thailand’s visiting Foreign Minister Sompong Amornvivat that without a quick pullout, Thai soldiers could face being fired upon by Cambodian troops in “large-scale armed conflict”.
“If they cannot withdraw tonight, they must withdraw tomorrow,” said Hun Sen.
“We have tried to be patient, but I told the Thai foreign minister today that the area is a life-and-death battle zone.”
His comments came after talks with Mr Sompong in Phnom Penh.
Mr Sompong also met with his counterpart Hor Namhong in a bid to resolve the dispute over the area near the ancient Preah Vihear temple.
The Cambodian foreign minister said yesterday’s talks failed to end in agreement because his Thai opposite number “could not sign anything”.
Hun Sen and Hor Namhong both told reporters that Cambodia could choose to take the border dispute before an international court if it was not resolved soon.
The comments made by the Cambodian prime minister and foreign minister surprised Mr Sompong and Thai officials, who were adamant that the meetings had not been a failure.
Mr Sompong said the tone during the meetings between the two countries had been different as the Cambodian leaders agreed that both sides had to be patient in resolving the border spat.
He said no Thai troop withdrawals would be made from the 4.6 sq km overlapping area between Kantharalak district in Si Sa Ket and Preah Vihear province of Cambodia until the dispute over ownership is cleared through negotiations in the Joint Boundary Commission that was set up to demarcate the land border.
Thailand reiterated its ownership over the area, Mr Sompong said in Bangkok and rushed to report the talks to Prime Minister Somchai Wongsawat.
Suranaree Task Force commander Maj-Gen Kanok Netrakavaesana will hold talks with his Cambodian counterpart tomorrow on the border issues and the Thai and Cambodian defence ministers will meet next Tuesday , according to Mr Sompong.
Cambodian Deputy Defence Minister Gen Neang Phat said more Cambodian troops were heading to the area after up to 500 Thai soldiers had tried to cross the border near an ancient Hindu temple that is claimed by both countries.
“We are building up our troops at the border in response to Thailand, but I cannot reveal the number,” he told reporters.
Maj-Gen Srey Deok, who oversees the Cambodian military in the disputed area, said: “Thai troops have already entered the area. They are confronting our troops.”
But Maj-Gen Kanok denied that more troops had been sent to the disputed area near the Preah Vihear temple.
Thailand and Cambodia have 10 soldiers each at the Keo Sikha Kiri Svara pagoda near the Preah Vihear temple and 45 around the compound on joint patrol, according to the agreement between the two countries to ease border tension.
The two countries also have back-up troops near the border.
The number of soldiers there remained unchanged, Maj-Gen Kanok said.
Maj-Gen Kanok slammed Cambodia for distorting information and taking advantage of the political crisis in Thailand to launch an offensive move for its own political benefit.
The Suranaree chief, his patience wearing thin, called for a quick solution to the border spat and a clear direction to be provided by the government as it could become an armed conflict if it was left unsettled.
“I want the government to solve this problem and make it clear what to do. If it is left this way, nobody knows what is going to happen,” he said.
Tensions between Thailand and Cambodia first flared in July after the Preah Vihear temple was awarded World Heritage status by the World Heritage Committee.
The International Court of Justice ruled in 1962 that the temple belongs to Cambodia, but the surrounding land remains in dispute.
Tensions escalated into a military confrontation in which up to 1,000 Cambodian and Thai troops faced off for six weeks.
The two countries have swapped accusations of violating each other’s territory in the dispute.
