A New Pledge of Allegiance for America

A New Pledge of Allegiance for America

America The Beautiful

O beautiful for spacious skies, for amber waves of grain,
For purple mountain majesties above the fruited plain!
America!  America!  God shed his grace on thee,
And crown thy good with brotherhood, from sea to shining sea.

O beautiful for heroes proved in liberating strife,
Who more than self their country loved, and mercy more than life!
America!  America!  May God thy gold refine,
Till all success be nobleness, and every gain divine.

O beautiful for patriot dream that sees beyond the years
Thine Alabaster cities gleam, undimmed by human tears!
America!  America!  God shed his grace on thee,
And crown thy good with brotherhood, from sea to shining sea.

If World War 1 was a Bar Fight

Germany, Austria and Italy are standing together in the middle of a pub when Serbia bumps into Austria and spills Austria’s pint.

Austria demands Serbia buy it a complete …new suit because there are splashes on its trouser leg.

Germany expresses its support for Austria’s point of view.

Britain recommends that everyone calm down a bit.

Serbia points out that it can’t afford a whole suit, but offers to pay for the cleaning of Austria’s trousers.

Russia and Serbia look at Austria.

Austria asks Serbia who it’s looking at.

Russia suggests that Austria should leave its little brother alone.

Austria inquires as to whose army will assist Russia in compelling it to do so.

Germany appeals to Britain that France has been looking at it, and that this is sufficiently out of order that Britain should not intervene.

Britain replies that France can look at who it wants to, that Britain is looking at Germany too, and what is Germany going to do about it?

Germany tells Russia to stop looking at Austria, or Germany will render Russia incapable of such action.

Britain and France ask Germany whether it’s looking at Belgium.

Ottoman and Germany go off into a corner and whisper. When they come back, Turkey makes a show of not looking at anyone.

Germany rolls up its sleeves, looks at France, and punches Belgium.

France and Britain punch Germany.

Austria punches Russia.

Germany punches Britain and France with one hand and Russia with the other.

Russia throws a punch at Germany, but misses and nearly falls over.

Japan calls over from the other side of the room that it’s on Britain’s side, but stays there.

Italy surprises everyone by punching Austria.

Australia punches Ottoman and gets punched back.

There are no hard feelings because Britain made Australia do it.

France gets thrown through a plate glass window, gets back up, staggers back into the bar and carries on fighting by attempting to kick Germany in the balls while he hides behind Britain’s skirt.

Russia gets thrown through another window, gets knocked out, suffers brain damage, and wakes up with a complete personality change and starts punching itself in the face.

Italy throws a punch at Austria and misses, but Austria falls over anyway.

Italy raises both fists in the air and runs ’round the room chanting inane Italian taunts.

BRITAIN AND FRANCE START WHINING THAT THEY NEED HELP FROM AMERICA.

America watches the belligerents until Britain and France are about to fall over from sustained punching from Germany.

Shakes her head in disgust, contempt and resignation.

Then walks over and ends the fight by by smashing Germany over the head with a bar stool

Yells; “I gotta stop partying with these belligerent assholes!”

By now all the chairs are broken and the big mirror over the bar is shattered. Britain, France and America agree that Germany threw the first punch, so the whole thing is Germany’s fault.

While Germany is still unconscious, Britain and France go through its pockets, steal its wallet and buy drinks for all their friends.

Russia inexplicably continues to punch himself in the face.

Just for the hell of it, Britain and France take Ottoman out to the back alley and shake her down.  She has no money so they take her clothes instead.

After everyone else leaves and Germany is still unconscious on the floor, France buggers Germany and smashes the Kraut over the head with a wine bottle one last time.

Germany awakens several hours later and vows revenge on the French.

Muslims and The West: Hate, Fear and Suspicion

On Trust, Fear and Hate

Moderate Muslims do what moderates of all stripes do. They stay home and keep to themselves. It’s why their called moderates.   Look, I absolutely abhor the Wahhabis and about 90% of the inane nonsense that is preached by these idiots and the Clerics and the IRG and Hizbollah and Hamas, etc.  You won’t find many people who know as much about Islam as I AND who rails against that idiotic religion more than I.  That said, the logic of the “hate, fear, [dis]trust” rhetoric here is flawed. I know many Muslims who want no part of the extremists. I know some “moderate” Muslims who feel threatened by the West.  We have encroached upon their lands, their culture, their people. We’ve forced our way on them. It’s only natural that eventually there will be push back.  If they did the same to us would we sit back and take it.  There are regular, every day people out there who just happen to be Muslim. The majority of Muslims are like any other people. They observe their religion casually and don’t really get all that silly about it.  Then you have the freaks. The Government of Iran and most of it’s Clerics, the Iranian Revolutionary Guard and it’s pets — Hamas, the Quds Force and Hizbollah. You’ve got al Qaida and the Muslim Brotherhood, al Jihad and the rest of the off shoots from those gangs of criminals and miscreants.  You can brand all Muslims as this or that about as much as you can brand all Americans as this or that.   I’ve traveled, lived and worked amongst Muslims for over a decade. They’re not all bad people.  Are all Christians bad because of the murderers of abortion doctors? Are all Texans bad because of the murderers who dragged that black kid in chains a decade ago.   Are all Americans bad because of the criminals who take advantage of war and rape and pillage the people whom we are supposedly liberating?  NO!

I don’t think that ALL Muslims distrust the West/America. I don’t think that ALL Muslims trust the West/America either. I’ve met Muslims who like and respect America who still don’t really trust us per se. They know that America is going to do what is right for America. This is correct. They understand this. Some of these people also understand the politics of America and know that we will change depending on the mood of the country and who we elect based upon that mood. America doen’t really have much continuity of ideals. We are ever evolving and constantly moving between the two political polars. Bush initiated the current Iraq war and Obama ran with our withdrawal as part of his platform. Many of the Muslims with whom I have dealt over the years understand this dynamic. Many of the Muslims with whom I have dealt know that America and the West have no real stomach for actual violence and war.  Even though we love the fantasy of it. The enemies of the West and America understand this as well. They know that we’ll get riled and ramped up for a period of time. They also know that they can wait us out and we will grow impatient with a lack of result or too many dead bodies even when we are winning the greater war. They know that our ardor for war and patriotism has clear boundaries. They know that they can wait us out. The Muslim community and especially that part of it that hates the West/America knows that over time they can defeat us because we do not have the stomach for war. They know that the majority of the West has that pacifist strain that will eventually lead to our downfall. There are many Muslims out there who would love to ally themselves with the West and bring about a more or less secular Islam. These people, though, do not trust the West to help them see that struggle through to it’s conclusion. They know that their deaths and the end of this alliance is one Obama (or Carter) away. Even Reagan withdrew from Lebanon after the bombing there that killed 280+ Marines. Reagan stared Soviet Russia in the eye and still backed down quickly from the violence of Islam. It happens time and time again. Many Muslims love the West/America. They see the potential for a life of liberty and freedom AND Islam therein. Even so, they fear our inability to stay the course. They do not trust our fortitude especially in the face of adversity and violence of the type that the other extreme of Islam will bring to bear while fighting us.

In the West and amongst Modern Christianity, voicing one’s opinion that runs counter to the Extremists brings criticism and possibly ostracism.  In the lands of Allah, criticizing the extremists brings violence and death.  Who here, in the West, would raise his voice first with the full knowledge that it will bring death and/or violence to yourself and your family?

That’s about what I thought…

My Fellow Americans!  Is this how you see the world, too?

A friend sent me this on facebook.  I almost died laughing.  Especially the depiction of Europe.  He’s a Brit, though.  He wanted to know where the Brit Isles were or wy they were omited.  His thought was that surely the Brits weren’t being mixed in with the Euros.  lol

His comment:

no, but the nation that gave you your great great (repeat as req,) families doesn’t make the map????? its wrong…
and why would an anti-american spell centre like a yank???? not sure, but I like the map!!!
As for me, I love the map.  Especially the summation of Europe.

Racism and Bigotry

I’m tired of people whining when they think that I am calling them a racist or bigot.  If you are the type of person who cuts the word “Hope” from this picture and replace it with the world “Nigger.”  If you are the type of person who creates or forwards emails that purposely denigrate whole groups of folks based on false information or misinformation.

If you participate in these types of activities, I’m not calling you a racist or a bigot.  Your actions and words are an admission of your guilt and your true feelings.  Don’t whine to me when I dispute the lies and ignorance of these actions and words.

Here’s a bit of a wake up call for all of you.  Not all Muslims are terrorists or want to push Sharia on the world.  Not all Black people are unemployed and on welfare.  There are Muslims serving in the military and who have served in the military honorably. I work with a Muslim right now who is a true American and one of the better human beings whom I have had the pleasure to know in my life.   These folks love America and what she represents in the World.  If you disagree with Obama over policy, that’s fine.  I do as well.  If you hate Obama because he’s black or you think he’s a Muslim, you’re an ignorant racist/bigot.  Period.

If you are a racist or a bigot, please move to Waziristan.  Many folks in that region are as ignorant, bigoted and racist as are you.  I don’t want your ignorance in my America.

America ~ Governement of the Government, For the Government and By the Government

In Politics, Quotes, thinking out loud on November 12, 2009 at 9:30 am

It was not supposed to be this way. We elect the government. It works for us. How did it get so removed, so unbridled, so arrogant that it can tell us how to live our personal lives? Evil rarely comes upon us all at once, and liberty is rarely lost in one stroke. It happens gradually, over the years and decades and even centuries. A little stretch here, a cave in there, powers are slowly taken from the states and the people and before you know it, we have one big monster government that recognizes no restraint on its ability to tell us how to live. It claims the power to regulate any activity, tax any behavior, and demand conformity to any standard it chooses. — Andrew Napolitano

No Need for a Jewish Homeland?

In islam, Middle East, Military, Politics, thinking out loud on November 1, 2009 at 12:10 am

Animosity against Jews intensified. Notes nailed to the homes of Jews accused them of working for Israel and corrupting Muslim morals. “Jews were specifically targeted by Houthi rebels,” says a spokeswoman for the Yemeni embassy in Washington.

In January 2007, Houthi leaders threatened Jewish families in Saada. “We warn you to leave the area immediately… [W]e give you a period of 10 days, or you will regret it,” read a letter signed by a Houthi representative cited in a Reuters article.

Virtually the entire Jewish community in the area, about 60 people, fled to the capital. Since then, they have been receiving food stipends and cash assistance from the government while living in state-owned apartments in a guarded enclave, says the Yemeni embassy in Washington.

President Saleh, a Shiite, has been eager to demonstrate goodwill toward the Jews. On the Passover holiday, he invited TV crews to videotape families in the government complex as they feasted on lamb he had ordered.

Raida became the last redoubt of Yemeni Jews, who continued to lead a simple life there alongside Muslims.

Ancient stone homes dot the town. Electricity is erratic; oil lamps are common. Water arrives via truck. Most homes lack a TV or a refrigerator. The cell phone is the only common modern device. Some families receive financial aid from Hasidic Jewish groups in Brooklyn and London, which has enabled them to buy cars.

Typically, the Jewish men are blacksmiths, shoe repairmen or carpenters. They sometimes barter, trading milk and cow dung for grass to feed their livestock. In public, the men stand out for their long side curls, customarily worn by observant Jewish men. Jewish women, who often marry by 16, rarely leave home. When they do, like Muslim women, only their eyes are exposed.

It is bewildering to me when people question the need for a Jewish Homeland.  The Jews have been persecuted for centuries.  Since the Roman era diaspora.  Christian purges, Czarist pogroms, Islamic expulsions.  The Holocaust of Nazi Germany.  Jews are forever the scapegoat for the inadequacies, incompetence and criminal acts of the elite.

Yet, today, people question the need for a homeland wherein the Jews can defend themselves and live with dignity.  A place where the Jewish people can live without fear.  A place where a future as a Jew is possible.

Palestine is a fiction.  There was never a Palestine in history except as a Roman province.  The name itself comes from the Roman language.  The Romans dubbed the area Palestine as an affront to the Jews.  Palestine is the Roman transliteration of the word Philistine.  Thus, the Romans named the area once known as Judea after the ancient enemy of the Kingdom of Judea.  Jews have had a constant presence in the area for thousands of years.  They have been present in the Levant since the time of the ancient Kingdoms of Assyria and Babylonia and the ancient Persian Kingdoms.  Alexander’s Generals and historians wrote of the Jews there.  The Romans conquered them there.

Then came the Muslim Empire.  The great and bloody Empire of Islam.

Islam conquered the area and forced mass conversion on the inhabitants of the region.  Well, technically the didn’t force conversion.  You had choices.  Flee.  Become a slave.  Pay a hefty tax called the Jizya.  To avoid all of these choices, one had merely to convert.  State three times the words “there is no God but Allah and Mohammad is his Prophet.” Yes, many people “chose” to convert to Islam.  And what a choice it was.

Today, all across the Muslim world, Jews are second or third class citizens.  They are treated poorly.  Subject to rules and regulations and the whims of a mostly illiterate populace.  Antisemitism is on the rise across the globe.  Especially in Europe and the Arab lands.

The Arabs like to say that Israel is a guilt price for the actions of Europe during World War II.

And perhaps there is some truth to that.

Even so, the Jews have paid their own blood price for that land.  When Israel declared independence in 1948, the Arabs attacked.  Killing thousands of Jews and proclaiming that they would drive the Jews into the sea.  The Jews fought back and held off that bloody calamity.  The Arabs maintained a steady war of attrition for the next 30 to 40 years.  Attacking at the borders.  Raiding across the border and murdering families and communities much like the bloodletting and rockets that the Palestinians and Hezbollah plan and execute today.  In 1956, 1967 and 1973, the various Arab factions have pursued outright war against Israel by closing the straits and bottlenecking the Red Sea, by bombarding the country with artillery and build ups on the borders of Israel and by outright attacking as Sadat did in the ’73 October War.

Yet, through it all, Israel has survived.  They’ve had the assistance of the US at times.  Their enemies have also had assistance.  The Soviets paid for most of the militaries of Egypt and Syria.  The Army that attacked Israel in 1973 was “mentored” by Soviet “advisers.”  Soviet pilots were shot down in combat action in the ’73 war.

These are things that the opponents of Israel will deny or claim inconsequential.

Israel has always existed in one form or another.  Most of the land that comprises Israel was owned by Jews in 1948.  This land was purchased from the Arabs who owned the land.  Most of the business in Israel in 1948 was Jewish owned.  The Arabs who lived in the area in 1948, moved there because of developments created by the Jewish immigrants to the area.

I have been to Israel.  What is striking about the region is that Israel is much like a mini-European country in a vast wasteland.  Exit Israel and enter Egypt or Jordan or Syria.  You enter a time warp.  As if traveling back to the Ottoman Empire.  If Israel were to fail as a nation, this is the same fate that awaits the land.  It will corrupt and fall into disuse and neglect.  This is why the Arabs want it?  The people of Israel took a barren wasteland and made it into a paradise.  The Arabs simply let the wasteland stand as it is.

I do not support the creation of a Palestinian State.  Never do I think this should happen.  A Palestinian State would be nothing more than another Islamic Despotism wherein the people are kept illiterate and a few corrupt leaders in the mold of Yassar Arafat will enrich themselves at the expense of  the masses.  The Arabs of Palestine would do better to make their own treaty.  Expel the thugs of the PLA, Hamas and FATAH and make their own treaty with Israel.  Create a non-religious state and live side by side with Israel in peace.  Either as an autonomous region or a City-State along the lines of the Vatican.  Live in peace with their neighbors and let religion be no issue at all.

Israel is the only beacon of light in the darkest region of the Planet.  In almost every country that claims Islam as it’s dominant religion, the people are merely slaves to the whims of despotism and tyranny.

Israel should be supported by all democracies and all liberal peoples.  The PLA and the other groups that keep this war going should be international pariahs.  Iran, Saudi Arabia and any other country who supports these groups should be ignored.

But, of course, oil makes that impossible.  America, China, Europe and India will kiss the feet of the Arab oil men of the Middle East and ignore the real injustice of the region.  And the despots of the Arab Nations will forever use Israel as the scapegoat for their corruption to avert the eyes of their illiterate masses away from the real enemies that are the leaders of their own nations.

Lipstick Jihad — an excerpt

In culture, family, islam, Literature, Quotes, thinking out loud on October 2, 2009 at 7:42 pm

Our tears are sweet, our laughter venomous,
We’re pleased when sad, and sad when pleased,
We have broken every stalk, like a wind in the garden
We have picked clean the vine’s caldelabra
And if we found a tree, still standing, defiantly,
We cut it’s branches, we pulled it up by the roots.

—-Simin Behbehani

Lipstick Jihad is an excellent book about a womans journey back into her Iranian homeland.  Azedeh Moaveni was born in the States and raised amongst the Iranian diaspora caused by the Revolution in 1979.  Later, she returns to her home in Teheran to cover the Reformist movement at the turn of the century.  She writes about the challenges of living in Iran as an Iranian-American and the inner conflicts of dealing with the [sur]reality of Islamic Iran as juxtaposed against her familial and diaspora created memories of her homeland.  It’s a moving story told from a unique inside outsider perspective.

I’ve enjoyed reading the book.

Last year some time, France banned the Burqa.  I agreed with this ruling wholeheartedly.  Some argued that France should not meddle in cultures and customs of the various immigrant peoples who inhabit their country.  Still others argued that the burqa and by extension the hijab or veil is part of the right to “freedom”  of speech a part of the expression of the culture of Islamic peoples.  I simply can not agree with this.

To me the hijab/veil and the burqa is a symbol of oppression.  It’s a relic of the patriarchal systems of our forefathers and a means of control.  It’s the tool used to enslave women.  We used similar tools of oppression here in the dark ages of the west.

These things and like items used to oppress people should be relegated to the dark past.  Discarded and forgotten for all time.

How would I feel if I were forced to wear similar tools of oppression.  What’s the difference between the hijab and the star of David which the Nazis forced on the Juden of 1930s era Germany?  What is the difference between this attitude and the attitudes of White Americans towards Blacks in the early 1900s in the Jim Crow Era of the South?

I see no difference.  Women in Iran are thrown in prison and tortured and raped for the simple offense of being seen in public with a non-relative male or showing too much ankle or for having the audacity to think and speak out.  They’re beaten on the streets for showing an inch too much of hair.  Young Men are brutalized by the basiji thugs for accompanying non-relative females from a Cafe to the curb to hail a taxi.

Do we excuse these behaviors in the name of cultural diversity?  Do we welcome this into our countries?  Do we allow this barbaric behavior into our neighborhoods?

I think we should not.

Someone will make the comment eventually; “So what do you want to do?  Invade Iran?”  That is not what this is about.

We can’t do anything about the barbarism of Islamic Sharia in Saudi Arabia or Iran.

However, we do have the choice of not tolerating it’s introduction into our own home countries.

I think that is where the world should make it’s stand.

I’m of the opinion that banning the burqa was not going far enough. The hijab should be banned as well.  Similar resolutions should be introduced in the UN to end this oppressive reign of terror on women.

Yeay!  Who cares?

Fox news ran this story constantly today.   Why?

And that blonde girl Natalie Holloway story is back.  I feel for the girls family but why is this national news.  A rich girl went to Aruba and was murdered because she couldn’t get enough of the bad boys who in this case kinda look like violent nerds from the black trench coat Columbine generation.

If this were an Asian chic who was barely making ends meet and got herself killed, would FOX run the story non-stop.  I don’t think so.

The real news is the economy.  But even there they go on and on and on.  Droning until you can’t take it anymore.  GM, Chrysler and Ford.  I own stock in Ford and I think that they will make it through all of this.  But if they can’t survive without a bail out, they should not survive.  Let them die.  They’ve refused to come to terms with the new world.  If they can’t do so, they deserve to die.  I’ve read that Ford is releasing a hybrid in Europe.  Why not release it in America?  Lots of people in America who are now hybrid friendly.  They should all three be jumping on the hydrogen bandwagon before they get left behind there as well.  I don’t know if the Unions should be busted or not.  But the Unions need to get out of the way of progress and let these companies adapt.  No one deserves a free ride.

Obama is saying the right things right now.  I’m on a wait and see pattern with Obama.  I don’t know if I can compare the guy to Lincoln or FDR just yet.  He’s done nothing.  But neither had LIncoln when he came to the the White House.

We’ll see.

I’m not committed to the Christian agenda.  So I am not as adamantly against him.  The gay agenda is silly to me.  But I have no dog in that fight.  Parents raise your children and give them your example to follow.  They’ll do the right thing.  Hedging your bets by railing against others isn’t going to keep your child from being gay.  I don’t know what will keep them from being gay but I’m certain that the gay marriage issue is not the thing that will prevent it.  Marriage is a joke approximately 50% of the time anyway.  Marriage protection act.  Sure.  I’m not buying it.  It’s the “Christian Abomination Act.”  Christians pushing their agenda one way and homosexuals pushing in the opposite direction.  Get out of each others way and live your lives as you see fit.  I’m tired of hearing both sides of this idiotic argument.

Don’t even get me started on abortion.

Make your own choices and live with them.  If you can’t live with them, stay home.

Allahu Akhbar!!!

Michelle Obama was Angry — “Whitey is still holding us down…” or was “he” (Re-visited)

In culture, Politics on November 9, 2008 at 2:14 am

I posted the original article and commentary about Michelle and Whitey almost a year ago.  It’s garnered quite a bit of interest.

image001

Barack Obama is the man of the hour in US and World Politics.  He is the President-elect.  How does Michelle feel about her comments now about bars being set and raised now.  She was wrong then and she is wrong now.  The bar was set high on purpose.  No one should be handed the office of President of the United States of America.  Not Barack Obama.  Not anyone else.  (Not even George W. Bush for all of you who will zone in on Dubya.)  Barack Obama has won the election.  The American people have won this election.

My feeling on this issue is that many American Blacks do not see and experience America as it is today.  Too many experience their lives through the past.  They see America through the prism of America 20 and 30 years ago.  Many Black Americans are living with the racist history and past of America as if it is a friend or a childhood blanket that they can’t quite let go.  Before anyone starts, I realize that racism, discrimination and prejudice exist today.  Yet, it is nowhere near as common as it was 30, 20 even 10 years ago.

Also, those problems exist on all sides of the racial/color divide.  I’ve witnessed Black racism towards Whites, Asians and Hispanics.  I’ve witnessed White racism towards the same.  I’ve witnessed Asian racism towards Blacks, Whites and Hispanics.  I’ve seen these people all practice racism in one form or another against Arabs and others as well.

So what?  It exists. You live your life and work around it.  It will always exists.

There are extreme liberal prejudices against Christians.  There are extreme conservative prejudices against Homosexuals.  Many folks are prejudiced against Muslims due to the dangers posed by Islamic Extremism.

It’s there.  It will always be there.  Tough.

Growing up.  I was discriminated against because I was poor.  When I was 19 and in Germany in the Army, I was jumped by 8 Black guys for the sole reason of the color of my skin. I’ve not spent my life being resentful for this treatment.  I don’t spend my days and nights talking about “the Man” and his desire to “get me” and “hold me down.”  I go out and live and try to improve my lot in life.  In spite of the Challenges and sometimes because of the Challenges that have come my way.

Obama will become the 44th President of the United State of America on January 20th, 2009.  This would not have been possible without the vote of White Americans.  This seems to be a fact that many Black Americans overlook.  The election of Barack Obama is a victory for all Americans.  Not Black Americans or racially mixed Americans.  All Americans.  It plainly illustrates that much of White America has moved past the old racist notions that held us back as a Nation.

My question is this:

HAVE BLACK AMERICANS MOVED PAST RACISM?

Are they willing to do so? Will they?  Or will we still have to hear about “Whitey” or “those damn Crackers” or the “evil White man.” Will White America get credit in the Black Community for looking past color in this election?

This is one of the roles that Michelle Obama must take on as First Lady.  The role of healer of a nation.  Will she aid in healing the racial divide or will she exacerbate the divide?  This nation needs a healer.  I hope she steps up.  We have a chance in this nation to move past pettiness and prejudice.  We have been afforded a unique opportunity.  Let us hope that a leader will step forth and carry us forward to that day about which Doctor King and so many others have  dreamed for so long.  May we free ourselves of these chains which have held us down as a people for so long.  May people put down their hates and prejudices and look instead to the individual heart and character of a person.  This is a possibility.

I so tire of racism.  The conversation itself is wearying.

Let’s move past this America.  Let us finally free our national soul of this disease of the mind and spirit.

Michelle Obama.  Lead us on to the future.
