The Black Vote in America. Do Black People Really Have a Choice?

The GOP attempts to limit minorities the vote through various shenanigans. They can’t outright deny minorities the vote. However, they can move towards requirement of IDs via legislation because, apparently, minorities are….hell, I don’t know…too stupid, too lazy, too complacent to get an ID of some sort. I don’t understand this as I’ve had some form of ID since I was 15.

The GOP works to limit minority voting not because of RACISM, but, because minorities vote heavily for the DNC.

The DNC attempts to limit minority voting choice in the election process. This is especially true of the Black Community. The DNC shames Black people and other minorities into voting Democrat. It does this through control of community centers and Black Churches.

Watch what happens when any Black person or other minority comes out of the closet as a Republican. The reactions of the Left is alway swift, loud and violent. UNCLE TOM! Pull that bitches Sistah Card! And worse. Stacey Dash was vilified so greatly by the DNC mouthpieces that I thought she must have assraped several toddlers. Nope…not that. She simply came out as a Republican.

The attacks on Allen West are the same.

No Black person is safe who comes off of the Democratic Plantation. A Black person who dares to go against the 50 plus years of Democratic Domination of the Black Vote is vilified. Not even ISIS or al Qaeda is attacked by the DNC with the same fervor as a Black Republican.

What you have here is a basic attempt to deny voting rights to minorities by both parties. One attempts to limit opportunity. The other attempts to limit choice. This amounts to the same. A Black person is expected to vote Democrat. A Black person who doesn’t vote Democrat is vilified, black listed and defamed such that they can find it dangerous to be amongst Black people.

I see no difference. The GOP doesn’t want Black people to vote because they know that 90% of Black people will vote Democrat. The DNC only wants them voting or to have a voice if they stay on the Democrat Plantation. If they don’t, the DNC wants to deny them both voice and vote.

How are Black people better off now than under Jim Crow? They changed the system, changed the vocals and optics but it amounts to the same.  Zero Choice for the majority of Black people.  Vote Republican at your own peril.

The GOP would prefer that you not vote if you are Black. The DNC demands that you vote Democrat if you are Black.  If you don’t, they’ll burn down your life.  It amounts to zero real representation as the Black Democratic vote is taken for granted and the Black Republican vote is not truly courted.

Gay Marriage Ban Unconstitutional!

The US Circuit Court of Appeals in Boston held that Gay Marriage bans are unconstitutional.  America’s promise as a truly egalitarian home of liberty and freedom shines through today.  The bigots have lost this battle.  The fight goes on as I’m sure that the Christians will not give up their targeted attacks on this minority.  The current witch hunt will go on.  Christians are nothing if not dogged in their desire to constantly attack weak and marginal peoples.  The use of the Bible has long been a favored tactic of Christians to hold others down and to demonize someone, anyone as long as it makes them feel good about themselves.  The fact is that many Christians only feel good when they are attacking something as ungodly or blasphemous.  They are second only to Muslims in their desire to force their religious absolutism on anyone but themselves.

Christians constantly attack gay marriage by terming it blasphemous and calling homosexuality an abomination.  The Sanctity of Marriage must be upheld, they love to scream irrationally.  Yet, some 50% of Christians obliterate the sanctity of their sacred marriage rites through the dissolution of their own marriages with divorce.  Usually, those divorces are sought because one or both spouses committed adultery or the marriage dissolves over finances.  Yet, no one screams about the sanctity of marriage at these times.

One of the champions of Sanctity of Marriage laws is Rush Limbaugh.  Dear Rush has been divorced at least three times and is a drug addict.  Allegedly, he cheated on each wife with the next.  I’m sure he isn’t finished with his ride down divorce alley.

The Battle will continue as the bigoted Christians will not concede defeat in their battle for the “Sanctity of Marriage.”  No matter how many of the bigots are divorced themselves, they will demand that others be held to a higher standard.  After all, Christians are not expected to be perfect.  They’re only expected to hold others to that higher standard.

Hypocrites and bigots seem to be attracted to the Christian cause.  This is simply the latest example in centuries of overt bigotry, racism and persecution of minorities and “the other.”

BOSTON (AP) – A federal appeals court Thursday declared that the Defense of Marriage Act unconstitutionally denies federal benefits to married same-sex couples, a ruling all but certain to wind up before the U.S. Supreme Court.
In its unanimous ruling, the three-judge panel of the 1st U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in Boston said the 1996 law that defines marriage as a union between a man and a woman discriminates against same-sex couples because it doesn’t give them the same rights and privileges as heterosexual couples.
The court didn’t rule on the law’s other politically combustible provision, which said states without same-sex marriage cannot be forced to recognize gay unions performed in states where it’s legal. It also wasn’t asked to address whether same-sex couples have a constitutional right to marry.
The law was passed at a time when it appeared Hawaii would legalize same-sex marriage. Since then, many states have instituted their own bans on same-sex marriage, while eight states have approved it, led by Massachusetts in 2004.

Geo-Politics: Change the Dynamic ~ Offer Incentive

If I were President…

1.  We get less than 20% of our oil from the Middle East.  I’d halt this immediately.

2.  That oil shortfall would be sourced from our own reserves and Canada.  I’d even throw a bone to Venezuela in exchange for their withdrawal from OPEC.

3.  I’d close all bases in the Middle East.

4.  I’d place a base in Israel and Egypt.  Keep the base in Turkey.

5.  I’d tell Egypt and Turkey that they have choice.  Either they’re with the West or their with the Muslim world.  If they decide that they’re with the Muslim World, then we withdraw all support and all bases from those countries.

6.  I’d tell Europe and Asia that America is no longer responsible and will no longer take action in the Middle East except in the case of defense of our allies.

7.  The Allies in the Middle East would be designated as Israel because they are a Democracy as well as Egypt, Turkey and Jordan.

8.  Our alliance with Egypt, Turkey and Jordan would be predicated upon Democratic reforms and their renunciation of a foreign policy based upon Islamic Internationalism.  These countries can keep their Islamic Nationalism, if they chose to do so.  That choice would mean our pulling all resources and support from their nations.

9.  Support of Jordan and Egypt would also be predicated upon an agreement to assimilation all Palestinian refugees.  All refugee camps would have to be closed down.  Those refugees would have to be given full rights in the countries in which they are located.  The US would assist with funding for housing and job training for these refugees at 50% of the cost.  This Aid Package would be closely guided by a contractual auditor to ensure that the monies were being used to build infrastructure and not lining the pockets of corrupt officials.  If bribes are insisted upon, funding would be withdrawn.

10.  Continued support of Israel would be predicated upon a real peace plan with the Palestinians.

a.  Israel would either permanently partition the West Bank and Gaza as sovereign nations and pull out completely leaving the Palestinians to their own fate.

or

b.  Israel would annex the Palestinian areas and alter their constitution making Israel an officially and legally secular nation.  Part of that constitutional reconstruction would be safeguards for all religions, creeds, ethnicities from persecution, etc.

There would be a ten year time frame to effect these changes with specific milestones in place.  If these milestones are not met, we would pull all support for any or all of these nations.

We would offer the new Palestine Nation, if created, a package of aid in return for a turning away from Islamism.  The US would provide financial and expert support in building a nation from the ground up.  A referendum from the Palestinian people would be required to receive this Aid Package.  In essence, the Palestinian people would be required to request it via said referendum and the leaders of Hamas, Fatah as well as members of any other quasi-governmental group recognized by the people.  If the people did not vote for our assistance, the offer would be withdrawn.  This Aid Package would also be closely guided by a contractual auditor to ensure that the monies were being used to build infrastructure and not lining the pockets of corrupt officials.  If bribes are insisted upon, funding would be withdrawn.
The onus would then be on these nations.  If they decided to go along with us, they would have our support.  If not, we would withdraw from them and leave them to their collective  fates.

I would have these treaties ratified by the US Congress and the United Nations.

There would be no military solutions offered.  Either they come on line with us or we no longer have a reason to be associated with them.  End of discussion.

As for the Gulf and their oil, that would be the responsibility of whomever wishes to continue to purchase oil from those nations.  China, France, Germany…whomever it may be.

We would continue to patrol the ocean lanes for support of international trade.  The Straits of Hormuz — no longer our problem.  Saudi Arabia — keep with your Wahhabism/Salafism on your own shores or risk offending more nations.

Egypt seems to be progressing towards Democracy.  This surprised me as I thought that the Muslim Brotherhood would take them in the direction of Islamic Sharia.  This is a positive development.  Jordan would need to step away from Monarchy and join the rest of the world in Democratic reforms.

Over the short term, these initiatives would seem expensive.  Over the long term, these initiatives would save America and the Globe much in terms of blood and treasure.

This would be my solution.

In effect, we would be saying; “Join the World and we will support you.  Remain in the Dark Ages and we will abandon you.”

I want out of the business of supporting corrupt and/or stubborn regimes.  Whether that regime be Israel, Egypt, Saudi Arabia or Western Europe.

The next thing that I would do would be to withdraw all forces from Europe.  The only way we would keep US troops stationed in Europe would be if at least 50% of the costs were funded by the country that wished for us to be there.  All real estate used by the forces stationed in those countries would need to be loaned permanently at a cost free basis for the duration of the deployment to that country.  A Status of Forces Agreement would have to be met whereby our Servicemembers would be subject to US Law and the UCMJ only while in country.  All services for our Servicemembers would be provided without interference by the United States.  All Servicemembers would be on a Tax Free Status in that country.  That nation would also have to be a member in good standing of the Democratic Nations of the World.

If they are not willing to do this.  No problem.  We will simply not have a need to act in defense of their Nation.

I would also pull out of South Korea.  On the way out, I’d tell China that if North Korea attacks, we would bomb the North into the dark ages.  That would be my final and only dealing with North Korea.  If the people of the North are too brainwashed, too stupid or too weak to fight for change, this is not the problem of the United States of America.  Let China feed North Korea or South Korea if that be their desire.

I would pull all of our forces out of Japan.  Japan doesn’t need us there and many of the people don’t want us there.  Next, I would enter a treaty with the Philippines wherein we purchase land from them to station our Pacific Forces.   I would base a Marine Expeditionary Unit and an Army Mechanized Infantry/Stryker Division there along with a Carrier Fleet being on Station at all times.

China would be warned that Japan is still our ally.  Taiwan would be told to work out their differences with China.  If China became bellicose and threatened invasion, we would act in defense of Taiwan.  Unless the threat is based on Taiwanese provocation.  In that case, Taiwan is on their own.

I would also make an alliance of mutual support with India.  Our Armed Forces would conduct joint operations/exercises with India.  If possible, I would allow for a treaty whereby US Forces would be permanently stationed in Southern India.  This would hinge upon Indian acquiescence on the Kashmir debate.

I would withdraw all forces and support from Pakistan and Afghanistan.  If Pakistan wanted our support, they would have to oust the Saudi Wahhabis and the Deobandi.  Pakistan would also be required to sweep the FATA and NWFP of taliban influences.  They would also be required to withdraw from the Kashmir debate.  This would be the price of assistance from the US.  No debate.  No equivocation.  If they want our support, they give up their dispute with India over Kashmir and halt support of all terrorism directed towards India.

India and Kashmir would be required to allow a full vote by the Kashmiri people.  1.  Independence  2.  Annexation by Pakistan  3.  Retention by India

International Election Officials would oversee the vote.  Any monkey business by either side and no deal.  Kashmir should be able to decide it’s fate.  Their fate should not be decided by Muslim terrorists or Indian Soldiers.

We would withdraw all support from Pakistan if this is not followed through to completion.   With regards to India, we go to a neutral stance.  India has no need of our support.  They’re a viable nation in their own right.

Aside from moving away from the Defense of Europe, I would do nothing in Europe.  They’re sovereign nations that can navigate their way through the world in their own rite.  We should not be providing defense for them unless they are willing to subsidize it.

On patrolling the commercial sea lanes, I would require that other nations either subsidize fleet operations or provide support in the form of personnel and equipment.  Either that or we protect only US shipping.

It’s time for the free ride to end.  The Nations of the World (especially Europe) have enjoyed peace at the expense of the American tax payer for far too long.  They decry our every move.  It’s time for them to step up.  The World doesn’t want Team America — World Police or so they say.  Let them have their desire.

These actions would save American Tax dollars.  They would remove us from the Middle East conflicts.  They would place the onus on other nations to conduct their own defense and improve the lot of their own citizenry.

After these offers, blame for the sorry affairs of the world could no longer be placed at the feet of America.  The primary sources of conflict would have been given a viable alternative.  If they chose the path to peace, it would be with our leadership.  If they chose the path to war, it would be at their own behest.  The blame would lie with themselves.

Another thing that I think would be a positive is for an exchange program wherein a Battalion of another Nations forces would be given the opportunity to come to Fort Irwin, Texas to train with US Forces.  I’d rotate the Nation on a regular basis.  6 Month rotations.  This would be a tremendous opportunity for our Armed Forces and theirs.  I’d offer this opportunity to India, Romania, South Korea, Hungary, Egypt, Russia, Thailand, Iraq, Jordan, Israel and other Nations with whom we would engage in treaties of mutual defense or with whom we wish to improve relations.

The last item on my agenda would be reforming the UN.  That, though, is a whole other post.

That would keep us from any more of this:

Along with legislation mandating a Declaration of War in order to commit forces to a Ground Invasion of another country.  I have no problem with bombing a perpetrating country into the stone ages.  If there are viable targets.  I would also work to repeal the prohibition against assassination of World Leaders.  We could have saved a lot of money and lives by simply putting a .99$ bullet through the forehead of Saddam Hussein.  We could save a bit more by spreading about 200 USD worth of lead throughout the Iranian, Hezbollah and Syrian power structures.

Arab “Democracy?”

Tunisia, Egypt, Lybia, Syria.  Revolutions are breaking out all over within the Arab world.

Egypt.  They wanted Mubarak out.  They say that they desire freedom.  Now, the likely scenario is that they vote in some form of Muslim Brotherhood-ish Islamic government.  A government that seems to be heading toward a Sunni version of the corrupt government of  Iran.  How is that more Democratic than Mubaraks regime?  How is that freedom?

The Syrians are doing the same thing.  Protesting, demonstrating, rioting in order to get Assad out.  They say that they want freedom.  They say that they desire Democracy.  Yet again, they’ll more than likely get an Islamic Sharia form of Governance based on the model of Iran.

In Lybia, it’s more of the same.  Trading Qaddafi for Islamic Sharia under Fundamentalists who wish to force their idea of Islam on the masses.

Is Sharia as dictated by power mad fanatics considered freedom by the people of the Arab world?    Trading one form of tyranny for another.  Is this Democracy?

I can’t see a difference between a Fundamentalist Islamic Government under Sharia law wherein all are coerced into being “good Muslims” or face imprisonment,  beatings, torture or murder and the genocidal regimes of Stalin and Mao.  If one substitutes Islam for Maoist Communism, the difference between Mao and Khomeini escapes me.  Mao starved his people to death.  Khomeini sent tens of thousands of Irani children to clear minefields between his Irani and Iraqi forces during the war that lasted most of the 1980s.  He promised that they would be Holy Martyrs and go straight to paradise.   What kind of monster sends ten year old children into the middle of minefields?  How is that different from Mao, Stalin, Hitler or Pol Pot.  In the end, the only difference between Iran under Khomeini and Iran under the Shah was that the Shah wanted a secular Iran and Khomeini wanted a Fundamentalist Shi’a Iran.  Khomeini stepped replaced the leadership of the hated Savak with his own devils and left the torturers and jailers in place.  Evin Prison is the same hell on earth under Khomeini as it was under the Shah.

Is this the type of Freedom and Democracy for which Egyptians, Tunisians, Syrians and Lybians fight?

American Capitalism is definitely not perfect.  Even so, you get a fighting chance.  You make your own choices.  America may not be completely free.  Not as it once was.  Still, America has more freedom and more opportunity than most countries.  One can complain about America.  One can discount America with lies, hyperbole and propaganda.  Yet, the truth remains.  People from all over the world flee to America in order to join a country that has more freedom and opportunity than nearly any other country in the history of the world.  We are free to come and go as we please.  We are free to choose a religion.  We are free to choose no religion.  We are free to dress as we please.  No Basiji, Chastity or Morality Police roam our streets beating women for dressing inappropriately.

What is it that Arabs want?  What do Muslims want?  They say that they want freedom and Democracy.  It seems to me they want the power to coerce others into being “good Muslims.”  They say that they want tolerance and acceptance.  Yet, I do not see tolerance or acceptance being shown to others by many Muslims and especially by  governments who claim to be Islamic.

What of the Religious minorities in those countries?  Are they entitled to freedom and democracy as well?  Are they entitled to freedom of religion?  Are they entitled to freedom from religious persecution?   Do women have the right to walk down the street unmolested with their hair blowing in the wind.  Do women have the freedom to choose their spouse?  Can a Muslim reject Islam and become a Buddhist or a Wiccan without a Fatwa being issued against him.   Is it the feeling within the Arab-Muslim World that only Muslims are entitled to Religious Freedom?

I know that there are tolerant and accepting Muslims out there.  I know that there are Muslims out there who wish only to be accepted as a Muslim and have no desire to force their brand of Islam on any other.  I’ve met them in Jordan.  I’ve met them in Egypt.  I’ve met them in Afghanistan and Thailand, America and Indonesia.  I’ve met them all over.  One of the nicest people whom I’ve had the pleasure of meeting is a Muslim Woman in Cairo.  She loved Islam.  She also accepted that others did not agree with her choice.  She was fine with that.  She had no desire to force her views on me.   For my part, I had no desire to force my views on her.  I’ve met people like this all over the world.

I readily admit that there are Christians who would force their Christian ideology on others if given the chance.  I’ve met them as well.  I find these folks repulsive.  I find Muslims who would force their religious ideology on others equally repulsive.  Thankfully, we, in the West, have separated Religion from Politics.  It still reverberates in the halls of our political bodies.  Even so, religion is held in check and kept out of our laws for the most part.  I would go further myself and eradicate religion from Politics.  Personally, I’d like to see a Taoist Buddhist as President of the United States of America someday.

I am digressing.  The question is; “What do Muslims want?”

Freedom for all or freedom only for Muslims within their country?

Democracy would mean protecting the rights of minorities as well as the majority.  This is not possible under Sharia Law.  Sharia and Democracy are largely incompatible.  Democracy means allowing differences of opinion to exist.  Freedom means allowing the same freedom for others that one expects to have for oneself.

If a Muslim can not wake up one day and say to himself that they wish to convert to Buddhism and do so without being murdered by the Muslim majority, then there is no freedom.  There is only a lie.  The concept of freedom goes hand in hand with liberty.  To be free means that one is free to make all of one’s choices in life.  To be sure, law and order must prevail in some form.  Murder must be prohibited and discouraged as well as thievery, rape and other such crimes.  Fundamental freedoms must be given to all, though.  One of those fundamental freedoms in any Democratic Society is freedom of religion.  If this does not exist, the rest is a lie.

Did BushCo allow bin Laden to Succeed?

Recently, a question was asked:  “Do you really believe what you are saying or do you think FDR and Bush were begging and pleading for Japan and Bin Laden to attack us so we could enter a war? Seriously?”

On the question of Japan, undoubtedly FDR was courting an attack as justification for entering the War in Europa. Anyone who has read the history of the build up to World War II knows that FDR was looking for a way to get the American people on a war footing. Embargoes are a mother!

As for bin Laden. BushCo were strangely oblivious of bin Laden prior to 9-11. I do not put it past the Gov’t and especially one guided by the likes of Cheney and Rummy to allow an attack to occur so as to “lead” the nation to war.

Why did we NEED to go to Iraq? The answer is that we DID NOT. Yet, 9-11 and the GWOT were used as an excuse to take us into that war. They definitely “shaded the truth” to get the war that they wanted.

The Spanish American War was yet another contrived war as was the Mexican War and the Vietnam War. When one looks at the Korean War, it is a war into which we either secretly goaded North Korea or into which Truman simply blundered like a blind fool.

American spheres of influence were stated loudly to the World. South Korea lay JUUUUUUUSSSSSST outside of the line. Leading NK, China and the USSR to believe that we’d stand by and do nothing.

An attack on any member of the free world, thus, would be treated as an attack against the United States, which would lead America to wage nuclear war against the aggressor.

Casualties of the Soviet Invasion of Afghanistan

Scenes like this are ubiquitous in Afghanistan.  Old shells of Soviet Armor and Trucks.  Every type of Soviet Equipment can be found out there.  Aircraft down at Bagram.  Personal and Crew Served Weapons of various sorts are everywhere.  Bridging equipment.  Soviet Armor and Personnel Carriers.  Soviet Mobile Kitchen Trailers.  Everything needed to field an invasion.  The Soviets left much behind when they hightailed their sorry asses back across the Amu Darya in ’88 or ’89.

Now it’s all rusting out on Afghan Bases, outside the Herat Airport and across the highways and byways of the country.

I doubt that they’ll ever display it. Hell, they should hang it from the Washington Monument in the exact same method that the extremist and illiterate rabble of the Muslim World would do if they captured Bush or any American/
really.  Give the bastards a taste of their own medicine. But we’re too “civilized” for all that. More is the pity.

Some folks will spin this politically and attempt to deny Obama credit for taking Osama out.  How could you not give him credit, though? Bush had chances to get him and failed. Clinton had chances to get him and failed. It took balls to order the strike. Took balls to order the mission. Took discipline to keep it secret for 6 months. Some leaders would have failed this test. Some leaders would have not wanted to risk the wrath of al Qaeda and other Muslim Extremist groups by taking Osama out.

I’m not a huge Obama fan by any stretch of the imagination, but, in my book, Obama gets big props from me for having the balls to carry this through. Period. That’s just me.

I liked the Presidents Address to the Nation.   And he ended it with “One Nation, under God, indivisible, with Liberty and Justice for all.”

The “Welfare State” of Israel

I’m pretty damn pro-Israel.

I am. Unabashedly so.

They fight. They work for their own welfare. They built an oasis out of a desert.

That said.

How long are we supposed to defend these guys? How long are we supposed to put out security and treasure and blood on the line for these people? When do they stand on their own?

If they can’t, then they’re not a Nation State. They’re at best a dependent territory. Perhaps, they should become a state. Join the Union. Then I could see supporting them indefinitely. They could pay Federal taxes with the rest of us.

If they can never stand on their own, should they stand at all?

That is my question.

The Right of Secession

When in the Course of human events, it becomes necessary for one people to dissolve the political bands which have connected them with another, and to assume among the powers of the earth, the separate and equal station to which the Laws of Nature and of Nature’s God entitle them, a decent respect to the opinions of mankind requires that they should declare the causes which impel them to the separation.

Do we all agree with this?

If so, how can anyone say that secession is illegal?

If secession [dissolution of political bands] is a right of Natural Law, the Federal Government acted unlawfully in upholding the Union in the War Between the States.

If such is the case, how can some hold the leaders of the Secessionist Movement aka the Confederate States of America as anything less than patriots?

It’s right there in the Declaration of Independence. Either it’s correct or the DOI is null and void from the beginning and we had no right to secede from the British Empire.

I’m assuming that you, the reader, are familiar with the Declaration of Independence. Therein lies the right/legal avenue for leaving the Union. It states clearly in that most fundamental of founding documents that “political bands” can and should be dissolved when the State/Compact/Federal Gov’t is longer working for the good of the people. All of the people or some of the people. It matters not which.

There it is in fairly plain English. Having read that, how is it possible that some declare that there is no legal avenue or no right to secede. Secession is an act upon which this country was founded. The[se] United States of America are/were born out of the clear and divine right to secede from an undesirable Union.

We have forced nations to accede to secession of minorities and other groups. We forced Czechs to allow Germans to return to Germany. We forced those same Germans earlier to leave the German Union and join the Czechs. We forced the Ottomans to allow groups to secede. We forced Poland, Germany, Korea, Vietnam, China and others to allow secessionist groups to depart from their sovereignty after World War II. We are forcing Israel to allow the Palestinians to secede from Israel. Many International Groups are attempting to force China to allow Tibet to secede even though China’s claim to Tibet goes all the way back to Khans Jingghis and Kubalai.

Whole parts of the Soviet Union seceded from that Union and we supported it and pressured Russia to allow it. The Balkans is a horror story of secession.

We created Panama by forcing it’s secession from it’s Union with Nicaragua.

India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, the various territories over which these three tribes fight are a story of secession from a Union that lasted centuries.

We took territories from Mexico. We took territories from Spain. Those were acts of lawful and unlawful sanctioned acts of secession and accession by THESE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA.

How can one say that there is no legal basis for secession when it has been the norm for Nation States since before the Fall of Rome which was one continuous act of secession that lasted for two or three centuries.

Secession is in the Bible. The Tribes of Judaea were a Confederacy which broke apart. That was a “Biblical” Act of Secession.

Secession is a right of natural law. According to our most cherished founding document. It is the act upon which the Founding Fathers laid the foundation of the Republic. How, then, can it be illegal?

ROOT CAUSES: Illegal Immigration

Illegal immigrants are everywhere these days.  Kentucky, New Jersey, Maine, Michigan, Idaho, North Dakota.  Americans are fed up.  They ask why they must pay the tax bill for illegal immigrant welfare.

It’s the cost of cheap labor. If Americans are going to allow South and Central Americans and Mexicans to migrate North so that American Business can get labor so cheap that China looks magnanimous by comparison, then this is the price America must pay.

It’s the same as it ever was. Business passing off expenses to the consumer.

Big (and small) Business gets CHEAP LABOR. The government takes up the slack. The tax payer pays for the Federal Government to take up that slack.

What’s new about this?

America did it with the Japanese, Chinese, Irish, Germans, Italians and others. Now America is doing it with Mexicans and the other Southern fellows.  I didn’t mention the Africans because that was different. Slavery was not written off and passed to the customer. There is no comparison between what happened to the Slaves and what occurred with other immigrant groups or the current batch. Slavery was simply evil incarnate.  Romans treated their slaves better than the American Southern Gentleman treated his.

Cheap labor.  It’s wonderful.  You want inexpensive products. Well, this is how you get it in America.  Illegal Immigration.  The only reason that Americans are complaining about illegal immigration is because it’s in their faces.  DAILY!  If it weren’t such an obvious phenomenon, the issue would not hold the collectively and infamously short attention span of the American political consciousness.

Cheap labor makes products that come from all over the world. China, Cambodia, Burma, etc,.  Not too many Americans give this a second thought as they purchase their Under Armour Shoes and Shirts.  Not many Americans spare a thought about these places because they aren’t walking by American front porches or soaking up American tax dollars.

This is the cost of Capitalism and Low Prices. Starvation wages, sweat houses, people living in squalor. All so Americans can buy cheaper iPods, Oranges, Bananas and Nikes. In the end, the devil takes his due.

GO CAPITALISM!

The Taliban Song and a day in Class

These are some clips from the Taliban video that I placed on here earlier. I thought it would be fun to piece it together with Toby Keith’s The Taliban Song.

I teach a logistics class here in Herat. For each class, we take a group picture. At graduation, we present the students with a certificate and this picture in a folder. The certificate gives them credentials as a “trained” logistician. This is an MoI ANP requirement. The picture is a memento of the class from our group of instructors.

While taking the pictures, my fellow instructor asked one of our students if he was nervous about having his picture taken with Americans. The taliban catches him with the pic, he’s liable to find himself in a bit of a pickle. The guy in question is from Bale Baluk which is down south in Farah Province. Farah is “Indian country.” It’s a hot area with a high level of bandit/taliban activity. Bale Baluk’s immediate reply; “f*ck the taliban.”

We all had a good laugh at this comment.

Earlier in the week, Bale Baluk told me that he was Muslim because his parents were Muslim. But that it wasn’t important. He and another student went on to tell me that Islam is the religion of the Arabs. They brought it here and left it. But it has caused many problems for the Afghan people. They stated that “Afghanistan would be better off without it.” A profound statement. An unexpected statement.

I am not real fond of Islam as a religion or as an institution of any kind. Because of this, a friend of mine recently asked me why I would come to a Muslim country in support of a program that would modernize Muslims. This endeavor could very well serve to elevate them into a more serious threat in the future.

I see his point. That said, there are days like today and guys like our Bale Baluk student who make it seem a worthy endeavor. 40 is probably the median age of our students. We’ve had a couple of guys who were in their mid to late 20s. A few guys who were pushing 60. Most are around 38 to 45. Senior guys who were around for the Russians, the taliban and the War of the Warlords in Kabul. Now, they are on board with America and our attempt to modernize their country.

I try to engage our students in each class period. Sometimes, they are willing to talk when pushed a bit. Some of them don’t really say a lot to us. They listen. They might ask a question or two. Mostly they sit and learn a bit to take back to their districts. About half of them will engage us in conversation.

Our current class is a little different. There are three guys in the class who have come back for reinforcement training. A second go round. They felt like they could learn more by coming back. These guys are extremely open. At the end of each class, thus far, they have taken to engaging ME in conversation. Asking my opinion on world affairs. Asking me what I think about Karzai and Bush. Asking why I think Bush has not attacked Pakistan.

Something that some of you might find surprising is that Afghanis have no love for Pakistan. They (rightfully) blame Pakistan for the rise of the taliban. These guys have no love for Iran. But they absolutely abhor and completely distrust Pakistan. They think that we (the US) should turn our guns on Pakistan as that is the origin of much of the trouble in this country. The taliban is trained in Waziristan. Peshawar is a hot bed for insurgents. Hekmatyar Guilbuldin is in hiding somewhere in the neighborhood of Peshawar.

Guilbuldin is one of the worst of the warlords from the time of Civil War in and around Kabul. He fought against Massoud for control of Kabul after the Russians retreated across the Amu Darya.

Massoud is another surprisingly complex conversation. Not all Afghanis consider Shah Ahmed Massoud a National Hero. He is not universally loved as some of the international press would have the world believe. Massoud launched many a rocket into the civilian population of Kabul. He, also, is said to have treated often with the Soviets during the 80s. This allowed the Northern Alliance to lick it’s wounds. But it came at the expense of the rest of the country.

Afghanistan is a complex country. There are no easy answers here.

Some of these guys are pretty intense. Some of them are extremely reserved and dignified. You have to be careful. They can’t lose face in this society.

These guys. This class. They are extremely laid back. One of the older guys asked me to play him some sexy videos because he hadn’t seen his wife in a month. He’s from Farah and has been waiting for our class in Herat for a couple of weeks. Travel here is difficult and time consuming. Earlier in the week, I had been playing my Ipod and they all wanted to listen to it. I promised them that I would bring my personal laptop to class the next day. I have 100 gigs of Itunes music and videos on my laptop. They all wanted to hear and see the music videos. And, of course, they wanted to see “sexy videos.”

I connected my laptop to our Sony video projector and a set of speakers that I had one of our Terps purchase downtown when I first arrived in Herat. They wanted sexy, so I played Jennifer Lopez. They loved her. I played a few others like Faith Hill, Carrie Underwood and Katherine McPhee. Katherine McPhee would be a Superstar in Afghanistan. They seem to love her. One of my terps told me that I “can not compare anyone to Katherine.” “She is the best.” I could only laugh.

The funniest part of the day came when Bale Baluk jumped up on the table and started to dance. I never thought I would see any of these guys do such a thing.

It was a good day. A day I am not likely to forget.

One thing that is humbling for me is the respect that these guys show me as their mentor. I don’t feel “worthy” of such respect. When I chance upon one of my students on a visit to the Regional Headquarters, they address me as “Teacher” and place their hand over their hearts as they greet me. I get the full hand shake/hug and double cheek kiss as well. Most of these men are older than me by ten years or more. They’ve been through war and terrifying experiences. Some of them risk their lives just to attend these classes. I’m always humbled by their greeting and by their sacrifice. These men have a quiet dignity with which they carry themselves. I feel greatly honored when they feel comfortable enough with us to let down their guard and to allow us a glimpse of themselves on such an informal level. This does not occur so often in my experience. It’s an awesome feeling to sit on an equal step of humanity with these men.

Is Islam THE Problem?

No, I don’t think that to be the case.  It’s not really about Islam generally speaking.

It’s more complicated than that.

Islam.  Muslims.  They’re not bad folks and many of them are damn fine people.

The problem that we won’t face is the Nejd.

Why?

Saudi Arabia owns it and has BLACK GOLD.

Also, the official religion of Saudi Arabia is the same form of Islam from which sprang all of the Fundamentalist Thugs who are terrorists.  Saudi Arabia is a State Sponsor of Terrorism.

BUT because they have oil.  It’s the truth that shall remain unspoken.

It is the evil with no name.

To speak it’s name is to reveal the truth.

It’s easier to keep the public ignorant and let a few hundred or a few thousand die at a time and keep the pipe line open to “cheap” oil.

What’s a few thousand civilians to Big Business and Big Government.  Most of the ones who die don’t pay taxes or pay negligible taxes anyway.  They don’t matter.

Saudi Arabia is the monster.  Wahhabism is their little secret Dr. Frankenstein.  Islamic Fundamentalism is the monster escaped from it’s dungeon.

It’s escaped before and the Muslims themselves went in and killed thousands of them in the Nejd while the Brits killed thousand more in the NWFP and the FATA in Central Asia.

Today, though, we choose to ignore the belly of the beast and instead, we “combat” the excretions.

Thousands, no, hundreds of thousands have died in the past 10 years.

Why?

To keep that Saudi oil pipeline open.

Riffing on the NCAA and the NBA Age Restriction

Why should one go to college?

Is it for the college experience? I’d say that’s the immature reason to go to college.

The reason that folks go to college or any school is to get training or a degree or some type of higher learning to prepare them for some kind of profession.

Basketball is a profession. Sure, it’s a short lived profession.

Nevertheless, it is a profession.

The NCAA should start treating it as such.

Students of the game should be allowed to maximize their instruction time. They should be allowed to learn their chosen profession.

Instead, the NCAA limits instruction in their chosen profession.

It would be like MIT telling mathematics or comp science/programming students that they can only dedicate certain periods/times to the study of mathematics or quantum physics or programming.

It’s all asinine.

If a kid, regardless of his financial situation, can go straight to the NBA out of HS, then they should be allowed to do so.

Kids can go straight to work for Humana or Google or Microsoft out of HS and make a 6 figure salary.

What’s the difference….????

Some kids need a couple more years.

That is where the NBA and the NCAA sit down and make some common sense rules.

A kid makes himself available for the draft. If he is drafted, his pay is deferred until he is evaluated. If he passes muster in the summer league, he stays. If not or if he goes undrafted, he goes back to college. Patrick Patterson could have benefitted from such an eval period. Orton would have. Meeks would have. Many players each year would benefit.

The Summer League and the Draft Process should be treated as an internship.

Legal Students do it. Damn near every other type of student does it.

The only reason that Collegiate Athletes in the Major Sports are given short shrift on this is so that the NCAA can call itself “amateur” and get a tax break. It’s all about the money. It has nothing to do with protecting the game, the sanctity of college sports or the fabled student athlete.

A program of instruction should be developed around each sport. Sports Management type academic program.

It’s not coddling the kids, it’s being realistic.

The way it is now, it’s a colossal waste of time for everyone involved.

While the owners want to do away with the soft salary cap and guaranteed contracts, the players hope to end the age restriction that forbids players from entering the NBA directly out of high school.

“We want to go back to the way it was,” a source from the National Basketball Players Association said. “The players have always been philosophically opposed to it. The vast majority of players feel a player should have the right to make a living. If he has the talent and wants to make money to help his family, he should have that right. It’s just a matter of principle.”

Cajun Economics

A lesson in Cajun Economics; one simple lesson and you’ve got it!!!!  Read on…

It’s a slow day in Mamou, Louisiana. The sun is beating down, and the streets are deserted. Times are tough, everybody is in debt, and everybody lives on credit.

On this particular day a traveling Shreveport salesman is driving through town.  He stops at the Hotel Cazan and lays a $100 bill on the desk saying he wants to inspect the rooms upstairs in order to pick one in which to spend the night.

As soon as the man walks upstairs, Bosco, the owner, grabs the bill and runs next door to pay his debt to Boudreaux the butcher.

Boudreaux takes the $100 and runs down the street to retire his debt to Trosclair the pig farmer.

Trosclair takes the $100 and heads off to pay his bill at T-Boy’s Farmers Co-op, the local supplier of feed and fuel.

T-Boy at the Farmer’s Co-op takes the $100 and runs to pay his debt to the local prostitute,  Clarise, who has also been facing hard times and has had to offer her “services” on credit.

Clarise rushes to the hotel and pays off her room bill with Bosco, the hotel owner.

Bosco then places the $100 back on the counter so the traveling salesman will not suspect anything.

At that moment the salesman comes down the stairs, picks up the $100 bill, states that the rooms are not satisfactory, pockets the money, and leaves town.

No one produced anything.

No one earned anything.

However, the whole town is now out of debt and now looks to the future with a lot more optimism.

And that, my friend, is how the United States Government is conducting business today.

Julian Assange and Wikileaks

Wikileaks.  State Secrets exposed by an arrogant ass.

Julian Assange.  The arrogant ass.

Sometimes the US government needs to be called out.  It’s true.  Our government is one 200 year old business concern.  We, the United States of America, are Capitalizm sometimes run amok.  I honestly believe that the educated of America wish to do what is right.  The majority of the educated in America.

The uneducated.  I don’t think they have a clue.  Most folks don’t have a notion of the events of the world.  Instead, concerning themselves with their daily survival and/or security.  And this is well and good.  For them.

Our educated.  Those who go out into the world.  Those who venture forth.  I think most are attempting to go out and make a positive mark on the Nation and the World.

Of course, some are attempting to strike their fortune and leave their mark.  Some are attempting to get theirs no matter the consequences.  Most, however, are attempting to stirke their fortunes while leaving a positive mark on the world.  Some succeed.  Others will fail.  Some will fail at everything except their final great accomplishment.  It’s the nature of the beast.  We try until we make it.

All that said, I think it is up to the people of the United States to correct our nation.  I don’t like an outsider taking it upon himself to “correct” us or to show us the truth.  I know full well the nature of the United States of America.  Our ills (slavery, Indian genocide, treatment of minorities up until the 80s, Vietnam, Mossadegh, the US Army and the CIA used as Mercenaries for Big Business)

We have been a the Nation of Big Business since our inception.  Along the way, we have done some good, though.  Much good.  As much, if not more than Britain.  And we did it without enslaving most of the world via colonialism.  We’ve done much more good than those other nations of Europe.  We’ve not caused several world wars as has Europe in the not too distant past.  We’ve not enslaved the masses with communism.  We’ve had our pit falls.  We’ve made our mistakes.  We’ve let our blood.  As have all nations.

People speak of Vietnam and Iraq in the same vein.  The two are nothing alike.  Anyone who actually reads a history book and who is not speaking in hyperbolic emotionalism knows this and admits this.  Yet, Iraq is a mistake.  Not this late invasion.  But our support of Saddam in the 80s and then our abandonment of him in the wake of his invasion of Kuwait.  We should have encouraged him to invade Saudia Arabia, depose the Saud Monarchy and to crush the Wahhabis in the Nejd.  That was our mistake.  Our further insanity was invading Iraq this time in lieu of invading Saudi Arabia and crushing the Nejd ourselves.  If the Saudis won’t do it, someone else must.

Back to Julian and Wikileaks.  I don’t like it.

He’s a supra-national party bent on exposing America for what he perceives as our crimes.  Who is this man who assumes the mantle of Judge, Jury and would be Executioner.

What do we know about him?

Who are his colleagues?  Who are his supporters?  Who backs this man?

What are his motives?

I don’t believe that he does all of this in the name of Global Peace.  I think there is more to it than we know at this moment.

In time, it will come out.

A friend thinks him a CIA front.  I don’t know if that was serious or in jest when the remark was made.

Julian Assange.  Wikileaks.  What are his motives?  Ulterior or otherwise.  I don’t trust European do gooders or Australians in that mold either.  They almost always have something to hide.

I don’t like an outsider meddling in our business.  The people of the US have the prerogative of cleaning up our own backyard.  Assange should aim his tactics at Europe.  They are not clean.  Yet, he seems to be concentrating on leaking US Intelligence and State secrets.

I won’t be surprised to see the guy disappear or floating in a river at some point.  I won’t mourn the loss either.

Full-Frontal Nudity Doesn’t Make Us Safer

For even more theater of the absurd, consider that the TSA screens pilots. If a pilot wants to bring a plane down, he or she can probably do it with bare hands, and certainly without weapons. It’s also not entirely crazy to think that an airline will take measures to keep their pilots from turning their multi-million dollar planes into flying bombs. Through the index funds in my retirement portfolio, I’m pretty sure I own stock in at least one airline, and I’m pretty sure airline managers know that cutting corners on security isn’t in my best interests as a shareholder.

And the items being confiscated? Are nailclippers and aftershave the tools of terrorists? What about the plastic cup of water I was told to dispose of because “it could be acid” (I quote the TSA screener) in New Orleans before the three-ounce rule? What about the can of Coke I was relieved of after a flight from Copenhagen to Atlanta a few months ago? I would be more scared of someone giving a can of Coke to a child and contributing to the onset of juvenile diabetes than of using it to hide something that could compromise the safety of an aircraft.

And finally, most screening devices are ineffective because anyone who is serious about getting contraband on an airplane can smuggle it in a body cavity or a surgical implant. The scanners the TSA uses aren’t going to stop them.

Over the next few years, we’re headed for a bitter, partisan clash over legislative priorities. Before the battle starts, let’s reach for that low-hanging, bipartisan fruit. Let’s abolish the TSA.
