Religion!

In Quotes, Religion, thinking out loud on November 30, 2009 at 12:15 am

Man is a Religious Animal. He is the only Religious Animal. He is the only animal that has the True Religion — several of them. He is the only animal that loves his neighbor as himself and cuts his throat if his theology isn’t straight. He has made a graveyard of the globe in trying his honest best to smooth his brother’s path to happiness and heaven….The higher animals have no religion. And we are told that they are going to be left out in the Hereafter. I wonder why? It seems questionable taste.

Charge Bayonets!

Lewis L. Millett; Cmoh army.jpg

COL (RET) Lewis L. Millett received the Medal of Honor during the Korean War for leading what is reported to have been the last major bayonet charge by an Amerocan.  COL (RET) Millet passed on Nov 14.

His Medal of Honor citation states in part:

“Despite vicious opposing fire, the whirlwind hand-to-hand assault carried to the crest of the hill.  His dauntless leadership and personal courage so inspired his men that they stormed into the hostile position and used their bayonets with such lethal effect that the enemy fled in wild disorder.”

During the attack, CPT Millet charged machine gun emplacements, hurled grenades into bunkers and laid down suppressing fire as he led two platoons to rescue a third platoon which had been pinned down by enemy fire.  He was wounded by grenade fragments but refused to be evacuated until after the platoon was relieved and the objective secured.

Our Heroes should be remembered.

After World War II, Millett attended Bates College in Lewiston, Maine, for three years before being called up to serve in Korea. Over a decade later, in the 1960s, he earned a bachelor’s degree from Park College (now known as Park University) in Missouri.[2]

By February 7, 1951, Millett was serving in Korea as a captain and commander of Company E of the 27th Infantry Regiment. On that day, near Soam-Ni, he led his company in an assault on an enemy position atop Hill 180. When one platoon became pinned down by heavy fire, Millett took another platoon forward, joined the two groups, and led them up the hill. Wielding his bayonet and throwing hand grenades, Millett yelled encouragement to his soldiers throughout the hand to hand fight. Upon reaching the top of the hill, his men stormed the enemy position and forced the opposing soldiers to withdraw. Although wounded in the shin by grenade fragments, Millett refused to be evacuated until the position was secured.[3][4] Historian S.L.A. Marshall described the attack as “the most complete bayonet charge by American troops since Cold Harbor.”[2]

For his leadership during the assault, Millett was awarded the Medal of Honor. The medal was formally presented to him by President Harry S. Truman in July 1951.[1] He was also awarded the Army’s second-highest decoration, the Distinguished Service Cross, for leading another bayonet charge in the same month.[3]

The Medal of Honor is the highest U.S. military decoration awarded to individuals who, while serving in the U.S. armed services, have distinguished themselves by conspicuous gallantry and courage at the risk of life, above and beyond the call of duty. Each recommendation for this decoration must incontestably prove that the act of bravery or self-sacrifice involved obvious risk of life and, if the risk hadn’t been taken, there would be no
just grounds for censure. The award is made in the name of congress and is presented by the President of the United States. Originally authorized by congress in 1861, it’s sometimes called the “Congressional Medal of Honor.”

COL Millet was one bad ass dude.  Read his wiki page (lined above) and if you aren’t impressed, you’re Superman or braindead.

16th Ranked Gophers fall to unranked Portland Pilots!

In Sports, Stupidity, thinking out loud, UK Basketball on November 28, 2009 at 9:27 pm

Portland’s best start in 14 years now includes a victory over a ranked team.

T.J. Campbell scored a season-high 23 points to lead the Pilots to a 61-56 upset of Minnesota (No. 16 ESPN/USA Today, No. 22 AP) in the 76 Classic on Friday night at the Anaheim Convention Center.

Robin Smeulders added 13 points and Nik Raivio grabbed a season-best 11 rebounds for Portland (5-0), which plays No. 8 West Virginia for the tournament championship Sunday night.

Portland, which routed perennial power UCLA on Thursday night, has not won its first five games since going 6-0 to start the 1995-96 season.

“We’re on a great journey,” Pilots coach Eric Reveno said. “I told [the players] that I thought I wrote a great practice plan. But I can’t make up anything to duplicate the experience of the last couple of nights.”

Minnesota coach Tubby Smith, who guided Kentucky to the 1998 NCAA championship, praised Portland’s defense.

“Portland did a pretty good job of keeping us off balance,” he said. “They’d be in a zone at times. They’d be in a man-to-man. They’d trap. They did a good job of making you get to your third or fourth [offensive] option.”

Portland outrebounded Minnesota 42-33 to help offset 19 turnovers.

Great Job Portland Pilots!

Congratulations, Coach Reveno!

Way to beat those Gilded Gophers!

my two favorite teams:  the University of Kentucky and whoever defeats Minnesota.

The Famous Blue Mosque of Mezr-e Sherif ~ The Shrine of Hazrat Ali (Rawza Sakhi)

In Afghanistan, culture, islam, Literature, Middle East, Travel on November 28, 2009 at 12:09 am

Located in Mezr-e Sherif…

Mazār-e Sharīf or Mazāri Sharīf (Persian: مزارِ شریف) is the fourth largest city of Afghanistan, with population of 300,600 people (2006 estimate). It is the capital of Balkh province and is linked by roads to Kabul in the south-east, Herat to the west and Uzbekistan to the north. Mazari Sharif means “Noble Shrine,” a reference to the large, blue-tiled sanctuary and mosque in the center of the city known as the Shrine of Hazrat Ali or the Blue Mosque. It is believed by some Muslims that the site of the tomb of Ali ibn Abi Talib, the cousin and son-in-law of Prophet Muhammad, is in Mazari Sharif. Twelver Shi’as however, believe that the real grave of Ali is found within Imam Ali Mosque in Najaf, Iraq, as was disclosed by the Sixth Twelver Shi’a Imam, Ja’far as-Sadiq.[1] The city is a major tourist attraction because of its fabulous Muslim and Hellenistic archeological sites. In July 2006, the discovery of new Hellenistic remains was announced.[2] The ethnic majority in the city are Tajiks.

An interesting story about a man’s travels in Mazar-e Sherif.

The Shrine of Hazrat Ali, also known as the Blue Mosque, is a mosque in Mazari Sharif, Afghanistan. It is one of the reputed burial places of Ali. It is the building which gives the city in which it is located, Mazari Sharif (meaning “Tomb of the Exalted”) its name.[1]

According to Shi’a Muslim belief, Ali was originally buried by his two sons, Hasan and Husayn in an undisclosed location, which was later made known by the great, grandson of Husayn and Sixth Shi’a Imam, Ja’far as-Sadiq – as the grave that is found within Imam Ali Mosque in Najaf, Iraq.[2]

A funny coincidence.  As I sit here researching the Mosque and The Shrine of Ali, my good friend Shoaib (my Terp) calls me on the phone.  I had just texted him “Eid Mubarak” as today is the beginning of Eid for Muslims.  He called to say thank you for the text and to tell me that he’d just arrived in Mazar-e Sherif.

Life is full of coincidences like that for me.  So cool.  I like it.

The story of the founding of the shrine indicates that, shortly after the murder of Ali and the burial of his body at Najaf, near Baghdad, some of Ali’s followers worried that his body would be desecrated by his enemies, and they placed his remains on a white female camel. Ali’s followers traveled with the camel for several weeks, until the camel ultimately fell to the ground exhausted. The body was then reburied where the camel fell.[1] The body was said to be redisovered there in the 12th century.

Decoration of the mosque

According to tradition, Mazari Sharif owes its existence to a dream. At the beginning of the 1100s, a local mullah had a dream in which Ali bin Abi Talib, the prophet’s cousin and son-in-law and one of the four Rightly Guided Caliphs appeared to reveal that he had been secretly buried near the city of Balkh. After investigation, the Seljuk sultan Sanjar ordered a city and shrine to be built on the spot, where it stood until its destruction by Genghis Khan. Although later rebuilt, Mazar stood in the shadow of its neighbor Balkh, until that city was abandoned in 1866 for health reasons.
Some of the artwork on the Blue Mosque. It is now the academic knowledge that the holy mazar which prior to 1100 AD was also sacred, as there is documentation of a “holy man” (with no reference to a name) being buried there, is, in fact, the eternal resting place of Zarathustra the Aryan (Iran-Afghan-Tajik) prophet who was killed in Balkh (Bactria) and was buried in that location. After the invasion of Arabs in order to protect the mausoleum, the guardians of the shrine decided to in a way erase that fact to protect the shrine similar to how the guardians of the shrine of Kurush (Cyrus) told the Arabs that the shrine is the temple of Solomon (Hazrat-e- Soleyman) to keep it from destruction. Later in saljuq’s time, probably a guardian of the shrine or someone who knew of the real story approaches the sultan as a mullah and tells the Turkish king that he dreamt about Ali being buried around Balkh and guides the sultan to the shrine, persuading the sultan to rebuild it. Therefore,Zoroaster rests in the heart of the original land of Aryans Aryanem vaije (eranvij=ایران ویچ).

The Seljuq dynasty sultan Ahmed Sanjar rebuilt the first shrine at this location. it was destroyed by Genghis Khan in the invasion around 1220. It was rebuilt in the 15th century by Husain Baiqara. [3]Most of the shrine’s decorations, however, are the result of modern restoration work. [1] One of the few remaining artifacts from the earlier shrine is a marble slab inscribed with the words, “Ali, Lion of God.”[3]

A site plan of the location made in the 1910s shows that there had earlier been a smaller walled precinct in the mosque, which were razed to create parklands later, although the portals to this precincts still remain as gateways for the shrine.[3]

Mazar-e Sharif - all blue.jpg

The core of the shrine contains Zarathustra’s tomb chamber and its ziaratkhana, which is an antechamber for prayer and worship. Tombs of varying dimensions were added for a number of Afghan political and religious leaders over the years, which has led to the development of its current irregular dimensions. These include the square domed tomb of Amir Dost Muhammad and a similar structure for Amir Sher Ali and his family. [3]

This is a beautiful Mosque and is hundreds of years old.  I have been to the Blue Mosque of Herat.  The Masjid Jam-e.  I’d love to visit Mez and take in the site up there.  I hear it’s a beautiful land.  Perhaps someday, I’ll make that journey.  Maybe I’ll talk to my friend Sher Abed and see if I can be a guest of Rashid Dostom  who is the King of the North.

Peace and Eid Mubarak!

Observation: A loss might be a very good thing for this team

I’m no different than any other UK fan. I want the team to win every game every season, so don’t think I’ve lost my mind with this observation. So far, this year’s version of the ‘Cats has had good games and not so good games. They’ve looked really good in spurts and not so hot in others.
Yet, in spite of all that, they have yet to feel what defeat feels like. Last night’s game was arguably the toughest test they’ve had so far. The Miami/Ohio game was a tough one, too, but it didn’t go into overtime. My point is they have yet to “pay the price” for their sloppy play. Again, I DON’T look foward to our first loss, but we all know it’s going to happen eventually. When it does, I honestly think that will be the catalyst to get our younger players, as well as the whole team, to realize that they really need to get with the program completely. Frankly, I would rather it be prior to the start of SEC play, rather than after.Last night was the first time this season I think at least some of the players had reality set in. At the end of regulation and into the overtime period, the camera was on John Wall and he was more intense than I’ve ever seen him. I know he really enjoys it when he makes a good play and I get pumped up just watching him, but last night I think it finally dawned on him that, “Hey, we might actually LOSE this game if we don’t it in gear!”Sometimes the foundations for the BIG victories are laid on the grounds of a loss. I won’t be happy when we do lose, but in the long run I think it’ll pay dividends when we do.

Comments?

I think John Calipari, John Wall, DeMarcus Cousins, Patrick Patterson, Eric Bledsoe, John Hood, Ramon Harris and the rest of the Team and Coaches would think you a complete fool.

What kind of fan spouts this nonsense?

The guy who wrote this idiocy is the exact same fan to whom I was referring here.  The dude is an idiot and should be banned forever from posting on any Kentucky fan board.  Complete Fuckin’ Moron.  Dude needs to have his Kentucky Fan credentials revoked.  lol

Joe Hall, the Kentucky coach who succeeded Mr. Rupp and for many years was his assistant and chief recruiter, once said:

“Coach operates from an extreme competitive desire and has a strong dread for losing.”

Regardless of the reason, he always put forth this kind of effort. On his weekly television shows he often said:

“We want to win, we just have to win. Goodness knows, no one wants to win any more than we do.”

Winning was Mr. Rupp’s passion. Someone once recited to him the famed Grantland Rice line, “when the one Great Scorer comes to write against your name, he marks not that you won or lost, but how you played the game.”

To this, Mr. Rupp answered:

“Well now, I just don’t know about that. If winning isn’t so important, why do you keep score?”

That looks like Coach Rupp telling a moron what he thinks of the “good loss” theory.

Ann Margeret and her Gentlemen

Ann Margeret and her Gentlemen

Viet Nam 1966

Richard, (my husband), never really talked a lot  about his time in Viet Nam other than he had been shot by a sniper. However, he  had a rather grainy, 8 x 10 black and white photo he had taken at a USO show of  Ann Margret with Bob Hope in the background that was one of his treasures.

A few years ago, Ann Margret was  doing a book signing at a local bookstore.  Richard wanted to see if he could get her to
sign the treasured photo so he  arrived at the bookstore at 12 o’clock for the 7:30 signing.

When I got there after work, the  line went all the way a
round the  bookstore, circled the parking lot and disappeared behind a  parking garage. Before her appearance,  bookstore employees announced that she would sign only her book and no memorabilia  would be permitted.

Richard  was disappointed, but wanted to show her the
photo and let  her know how much those shows meant to lonely GI’s so far from home. Ann Margret came out looking  as beautiful as ever and, as second in line, it was soon Richard’s turn.

He presented the book for her  signature and then took out  the photo. When he did, there were many shouts from the employees  that she would not sign it. Richard  said, ‘I understand. I just wanted her to see it.’

She took one look at the photo,  tears welled up in her eyes and
she said, ‘This is one of my  gentlemen from Viet Nam and I most certainly will sign his photo. I know what these  men did for their country and I always have time for ‘my gentlemen.”

With  that, she pulled Richard  across the table and planted a big kiss on him. She then made  quite a to-do about the bravery of  the young men she met over the years, how much she admired them, and how much she appreciated them. There weren’t too many dry eyes among those close enough to  hear. She then posed for pictures and acted as if he were the only one there.

Later at dinner, Richard was very quiet. When I asked if he’d like to  talk about it, my big strong husband broke down in tears. ‘That’s the first  time anyone ever thanked me for my time in the Army,’ he said.

That night was a turning point for  him. He walked a little  straighter and, for the first time in years, was proud to have  been a Vet. I’ll never forget Ann Margret  for her graciousness and how much that small act of kindness meant to my husband.

It’s a nice story and, according to snopes.com,  a true story.

Washington’s 1789 Thanksgiving Day Proclamation:

WHEREAS it is the duty of all nations to acknowledge the providence of Almighty God, to obey His will, to be grateful for His benefits, and humbly to implore His protection and favour; and Whereas both Houses of Congress have, by their joint committee, requested me “to recommend to the people of the United States a DAY OF PUBLICK THANSGIVING and PRAYER, to be observed by acknowledging with grateful hearts the many and signal favors of Almighty God, especially by affording them an opportunity peaceably to establish a form of government for their safety and happiness:”

NOW THEREFORE, I do recommend and assign THURSDAY, the TWENTY-SIXTH DAY of NOVEMBER next, to be devoted by the people of these States to the service of that great and glorious Being who is the beneficent author of all the good that was, that is, or that will be; that we may then all unite in rendering unto Him our sincere and humble thanks for His kind care and protection of the people of this country previous to their becoming a nation; for the signal and manifold mercies and the favorable interpositions of His providence in the course and conclusion of the late war; for the great degree of tranquility, union, and plenty which we have since enjoyed;– for the peaceable and rational manner in which we have been enable to establish Constitutions of government for our sasety and happiness, and particularly the national one now lately instituted;– for the civil and religious liberty with which we are blessed, and the means we have of acquiring and diffusing useful knowledge;– and, in general, for all the great and various favours which He has been pleased to confer upon us.

And also, that we may then unite in most humbly offering our prayers and supplications to the great Lord and Ruler of Nations and beseech Him to pardon our national and other transgressions;– to enable us all, whether in publick or private stations, to perform our several and relative duties properly and punctually; to render our National Government a blessing to all the people by constantly being a Government of wise, just, and constitutional laws, discreetly and faithfully executed and obeyed; to protect and guide all sovereigns and nations (especially such as have shewn kindness unto us); and to bless them with good governments, peace, and concord; to promote the knowledge and practice of true religion and virtue, and the increase of science among them and us; and, generally to grant unto all mankind such a degree of temporal prosperity as he alone knows to be best.

GIVEN under my hand, at the city of New-York, the third day of October, in the year of our Lord, one thousand seven hundred and eighty-nine.

(signed) G. Washington

I honestly do not know how folks on the left can read the writings of our Founding Fathers and come away with the notion that America was not founded and intended to be, in character, a Christian Nation.  Regardless of my reservations with Christianity and Christians themselves, I can not, in good conscience, deny that our Founders believed in a more or less Judeo-Christian God and desired greatly to see our Nation carry on that tradition.  To say otherwise is intellectual dishonesty.

“NBA, that’s all I’ve got to say,” Wildcats forward Patrick Patterson said. “John Wall is a pro player and he wants the ball in crunch-time situations. Whenever we need a basket or something on the offensive end John is going to be the one to do it.”

Calipari on Wall and Bledsoe:

“I think we’ve got two guys when the game is on the line they are not afraid to make plays, which bodes well for us,” Kentucky coach John Calipari said. “You saw once again that late in the game I’m not calling a timeout. I don’t need to be a hero, let those guys be the hero.”

“Those two guys have the killer (instinct),” Calipari said. “What you want is the guys with the killer to bleed onto the others. Just a will to win.”

“For such a young team, they showed a lot of poise down the stretch,” Stanford coach Johnny Dawkins said. “(Wall) is one of the fastest guards I’ve ever seen play on any level. He showed a lot of poise for his age. He’s a terrific player.”

On the other side, Wall was the only Kentucky player to get going before the break. The freshman guard had 15 points but could not do all the heavy lifting with preseason All-American forward Patterson going out of the game less than six minutes in with two fouls. Without Patterson’s inside presence the Wildcats struggled to get anything in the paint and shot just 35.5 percent from the field.

Patterson got going early in the second half on his way to his 25th career double-double, but he missed two point-blank opportunities on the same possession that would have given Kentucky its first lead since late in the first half with just over 10 minutes remaining.

He made up for it later, using a power post move to give Kentucky a 54-53 lead with 6:42 to play.

John Wall will be the first #1 Draft Pick in Kentucky History.  He or Patterson should be the First UK Basketballer to bring home the Adolph Rupp Trophy for Player of the Year.  I think one of them will bring home the Wooden Trophy as well.  Wall may well be the most highly regarded Frosh/Student Athlete to ever have worn the UK Jersey by the time this year is finished.  He is certainly lived up to the hype surrounding him as a player.  What’s more is that the guy is actually a good student and a good guy as well.

Calipari pulled off a recruiting coup with John Wall.  His second best recruiting pitch was retaining Patrick Patterson.  These are two All World Student Athletes.  I just hope that all of the anti-Cal or anti-Kentucky feeling out there doesn’t hurt them over the course of the year.  Lots of guys out there who are waiting like vultures for something, anything to pop up to stall or kill Cal and Kentucky’s momentum.  Yet, these same hypocrites defend John Wooden as if their reputations depended upon said defense.

This year, UK has three of the Top Freshman in the CNNSI Power Rankings.  Wall and Cousins are ranked #’s 1 and 2 respectively.  Eric Bledsoe is ranked at #25.  I’m sure that Bledsoe will rise as the year goes on.  All three are players.  I can see them all going to the NBA after this year.  Hopefully, Bledsoe and Cousins come back for a 2nd year.  The good thing, though, is that IF Cousins sees it as more wise to come out for the Draft after this year, it will likely mean that he has helped lead UK to a Final Four or better.

This should be a great year for Kentucky Basketball.  Patterson, Wall and the rest of the Frosh are finding ways to win this year.  Whereas last year, Billy Gillispie was finding ways to lose.

Ten Loss Tubby ~ Kentucky Traitor

Here he is in all his glory.  Coach of the Golden Gophers of Minnesota.

Any Kentucky Fan who still cheers for this guy is an idiot.  They should be driven out of the Big Blue Nation or hell, we should tar and feather the losers.  I’m so tired of getting on Kentucky boards only to see some moron has posted a link to a Golden Gophers board or a new link to a Golden Gopher game/win.   Here’s a hint ~  No one cares.  If you want to cheer for Traitor Tubby, take your sorry ass to a Minnesota Golden Gophers Board.  I’m sure they’ll welcome your sorry ass with open arms.

They’re especially notorious for this over at Wildcatnation.net.  Several posters over there love to slobber all over Tubby each time he’s brought into a conversation.  Then they wonder why people get annoyed by them and their Tubby erotica.   I swear to God.  In a full moon, these idiots probably get together and have orgies under a Tubby Shrine.  Lube themselves up and in a grotesque scene straight out of hell, they worship Tubby by sacrificing poor little gophers which they’ve painted gold with paint purchased on special at Walmart.  I’m sure UKBOOB leads them in their sacrificial prayer and is the first to strip down and rub himself all over the TLT statue and drink the golden gopher blood.

Bunch of Damn Losers!

Honestly, I’ve got nothing against the Tubster since he did the right thing and skulked out of town leaving all the problems that he created behind for someone else to fix.  Now that’s real class.  lol  But his slobbering and adoring leftovers at UK, I wish he’d come down and lead them away like a bandwagon driving pied piper.  We don’t need the bandwagon chumps in the Big Blue Nation.

New Atheist Holiday!

In Holidays, Humor, Stupidity on November 23, 2009 at 8:51 pm

In Florida , an atheist created a case against the upcoming Easter and Passover Holy days. He hired an attorney to bring a discrimination case against Christians and Jews and observances of their holy days. The argument was that it was unfair that atheists had no such recognized days.

The case was brought before a judge. After listening to the passionate presentation by the lawyer, the judge banged his gavel declaring, “Case dismissed!”

The lawyer immediately stood objecting to the ruling saying, “Your honor, How can you possibly dismiss this case? The Christians have Christmas, Easter and others. The Jews have Passover, Yom Kippur and Hanukkah, yet my client and all other atheists have no such holidays…”

The judge leaned forward in his chair saying, “But you do. Your client, counsel, is woefully ignorant.”

The lawyer said, “Your Honor, we are unaware of any special observance or holiday for atheists.”

The judge said, “The calendar says April 1st is April Fools Day. Psalm 14:1 states, ‘The fool says in his heart, there is no God.’ Thus, it is the opinion of this court, that, if your client says there is no God, then he is a fool. Therefore, April 1st is his day. Court is adjourned.”

Perhaps now they’ll stop all that damn whining…

Brett Favre: Iraqi Secret Weapon

> Iraqi detainees taunt Wisconsin soldiers about Brett Favre

By MJD

If you happen to be a Packers fan who is sick and tired of hearing about Brett Favre(notes), and you’re thinking of joining the National Guard and going overseas to get away from it all, stop. It’s not going to work. The detainees in Baghdad are going to be just as vicious as the Vikings fans you know.

A Wisconsin National Guard unit charged with keeping watch over detainees in Baghdad decided to put up Packers colors and logos all around the camp. The prisoners noticed, started asking questions and suddenly, Favre became an unwitting ally.

From 620WTMJ’s Jay Sorgi (subbing in for the injured Waylon Manning):

“They know Favre by name,” said First Lieutenant Tim Boehnen, who is from New Richmond, Wis.

“One of the big words they know now is shenanigan. They’ll constantly talk about ‘Favre shenanigans,’ ‘He’s so good for the Vikings,’ and ‘The Packers have got to really feel bad about that one.’ “

[...] “They obviously then started up the conversations, and started talking about Brett Favre. They soon learned about Favre going to the Vikings, and things just started going downhill from there.”

In retaliation, I think our troops should make the detainees watch ESPN’s Week 4 Monday Night Football contest between the Vikings and Packers, including pre- and post-game shows. They’ll never want to mention Favre again.

Racism and Bigotry

I’m tired of people whining when they think that I am calling them a racist or bigot.  If you are the type of person who cuts the word “Hope” from this picture and replace it with the world “Nigger.”  If you are the type of person who creates or forwards emails that purposely denigrate whole groups of folks based on false information or misinformation.

If you participate in these types of activities, I’m not calling you a racist or a bigot.  Your actions and words are an admission of your guilt and your true feelings.  Don’t whine to me when I dispute the lies and ignorance of these actions and words.

Here’s a bit of a wake up call for all of you.  Not all Muslims are terrorists or want to push Sharia on the world.  Not all Black people are unemployed and on welfare.  There are Muslims serving in the military and who have served in the military honorably. I work with a Muslim right now who is a true American and one of the better human beings whom I have had the pleasure to know in my life.   These folks love America and what she represents in the World.  If you disagree with Obama over policy, that’s fine.  I do as well.  If you hate Obama because he’s black or you think he’s a Muslim, you’re an ignorant racist/bigot.  Period.

If you are a racist or a bigot, please move to Waziristan.  Many folks in that region are as ignorant, bigoted and racist as are you.  I don’t want your ignorance in my America.

Contracting “US Companies” in Afghanistan

In Afghanistan, Commerce, Humor, Military, Politics, Stupidity on November 19, 2009 at 12:17 pm

US Contract Companies are hiring 15 to 20 Third Country Nationals (Indians, Filipinos, etc) for every one American in Afghanistan. 10% of Americans out of work and DynCorps, Fluor, CACI, AECOM, KBR and all of these other “American” International Contract companies aren’t interested in hiring any of them.  Maybe they’ll hire some illegal immigrants as well.

They are keeping their bottom line in check with these moves.  Making millions of dollars in profit by stiffing the American worker.  DynCorps, KBR and Fluor can hire 20 Indians for the cost of hiring one US Citizen.  The US Government is awarding these multi-million dollar contracts to these “American” companies and they here 80-90 percent foreign employees.

What I think is even more humorous is that the US Government is making this concerted effort to break up large contracts such as the KBR LOGCAP II contract as well as others.  There are very few companies that can handle the logistics of these operations.  What ends up happening is that Company A wins the contract from the US government.  Company A then subcontracts to KBR (or whatever company) or a subsidiary of KBR.  The same company winds up with all of the contracts that they had before.  The difference is that there is now a middle man.  It’s all a shell game.  I guess Congress and the average American out there are idiots and are fooled by all of this muddling of facts and actions.

Another thing that Company B (KBR) does is form another company/corporation.  It looks like a separate company on paper but it’s indirectly owned by the same people.  They even hire the same folks from earlier contracts to run them.  Same PM, same DPM, same cast and crew.  On the surface, a new company is in business and winning contracts.  In reality, it’s the same group of folks making the same money.

And it’s easy to see.  Easy to investigate, but, the US government is too lazy or incompetent to see the obvious.  I’ve been laughing for 5 years.  Same crooks winning the same contracts and the same Congress and DOD/DOS getting scammed for more and more tax dollars.

Fools!

It’s been the same story since at least World War II.  I bet that some of these companies can be traced back to the War between the States.  The US Government never learns.  They just open that check book and sign more checks.

No, I’m not a disgruntled employee or former employee.  Most of my contract work requires that I am a US citizenship.  This doesn’t affect me and never will.

The Media: How Do They Get It So Wrong? ALL THE TIME!

In Afghanistan, Literature, Military, Politics, Quotes, thinking out loud on November 17, 2009 at 12:01 am

Camp Phoenix, on the outskirts of Kabul, is run by US forces, with some NATO member nations maintaining a presence there.

It is also a base for the Afghan army, which is being trained by international forces in the hope it can take over the responsibility for fighting the Taliban insurgency.

The camp occasionally comes under attack, mostly from rocket and mortar fire, though without casualties.

Camp Phoenix has never been mortared.  It’s never been rocketed.  Not while I was there.  Not while I was at Camp Eggers and not in the past 3 years.  I’d know.  I lived at Camp Phoenix for one year.  I lived on Camp Eggers for a year as well and visited Phoenix frequently.  I’ve been to Camp Phoenix several times over the past 3 years as well.  I have friends at Camp Phoenix right now.  One who has been there for 3 years.

Camp Phoenix has never been a training base for Afghans either.  Not the ANA or the ANP.  There are two Camps about ten miles down the road called Camp Blackhorse and the Kabul Military Training Complex (KMTC).  Afghans are trained there.  Afghans are trained at Darulaman and there are 2 or three ANP training bases within and around Kabul on which ANP are trained.

I see this happening all the time.  The Associated Press (AP) picks up a story written by some idiot who never leaves the safe confines of his hotel room or villa in Shahr-e Naw or Wazir Akhbar Khan.  These morons report as if they are on the scene.  They mix up place and location.  They hack together stories based on second hand information and pawn it off on the public as gospel truth.  The guy who wrote this story should be fired.  He printed a hand full of lies and sent it in as if he had actually visited the places about which he wrote.  A bunch of older hacks will probably award this poltroon a  Pulitzer and they’ll all sit around in a smoke filled chamber and congratulate each other on their bravery and literary brilliance.

I’ve seen this kind of irresponsible writing of lies and half truths all over the globe.  Korea when Kim Il Sung died.  When Qandahar was attacked.  In Kabul after various attacks.  In Herat after suicide bombings.  From whom do these morons obtain their “facts?”  Dr. Suess?  The Brothers Grimm?  Hanna- Barbera?  Does anyone back home in America fact check or edit their hotel room ramblings?

I read the newspaper and online journals and I often wonder if these folks are even in country.  What happened to reporting from the front?  These guys are reporting from the whorehouse or from the tea parlor.  They’re definitely NOT on the scene.  Not here in Afghanistan.  I can assure you of that.

First the Saudis.

Then the Japanese Emperor.

I guess he’s just practicing so he’ll be perfect when he goes to Beijing to grovel before the ChiComs.

Maybe he’ll stop by the Mao Mausaleum and kiss old Mao’s cold dead forehead.
